I was wrong to think that love = doing more... ❌

I used to think loving someone meant doing more, trying harder, giving more, fixing more...

But maybe sometimes doing LESS means more. 🤯

If our relationship is meant to be a safe space for both of us, then I have to be honest about the ways my expectations may have made it feel less safe for him too.

Once I started releasing him from those pressures and expectations, I felt lighter. 🧚🏻‍♀️ Happier. Freer. ✨

Hopefully this post can prompt you to stop asking, “What more can I do for my relationship?”...and instead, start asking:

“What unspoken expectations am I still holding my partner hostage to?”

... Read moreReflecting on my journey, I realized that the 'less is more' approach in relationships is about easing pressure on both partners. For example, I once expected my husband to read my mind, which only led to misunderstandings and frustration. Instead, I began expressing my needs openly, just like giving clear instructions to ChatGPT — with context, honesty, and a clear outcome. This simple change made a huge difference in how we connect daily. I also stopped expecting my partner to act as my therapist. While it’s natural to want support, I learned that professional help, like therapy or counseling, is essential to work through deeper issues. This gave our relationship a healthier dynamic where he supports me without the burden of fixing everything. Another important lesson was allowing each other space for individual growth and interests. I used to think sharing everything meant doing all activities together, but embracing our separate passions actually brought us closer. Coming home with new stories to share keeps the relationship vibrant and authentic. These shifts not only made me feel lighter and happier but created a safer emotional space for both of us. If you’re feeling weighed down by what you think love should look like, consider what expectations you might ease to invite more joy and freedom into your partnership.
