cake pops

• 1 box vanilla or white cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake)

• Ingredients listed on the cake mix (usually eggs, oil, water)

For the filling

• 2–3 tablespoons vanilla frosting

For the coating

• 12 oz pink candy melts (or white melts with pink food coloring)

• 20–24 lollipop sticks

• White sprinkles

Step 1: Bake the Cake

1. Prepare the vanilla cake according to the box instructions.

2. Bake in a 9×13 pan.

3. Let the cake cool completely.

Step 2: Crumble the Cake

1. Break the cake into pieces in a large bowl.

2. Crumble it with your hands until it looks like fine crumbs.

Step 3: Mix with Frosting

1. Add 2–3 tablespoons frosting.

2. Mix until it becomes a soft dough that holds together when pressed.

(Don’t add too much or the cake pops will be too soft.)

Step 4: Form Cake Balls

1. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of mixture.

2. Roll into balls.

3. Place on a tray lined with parchment paper.

4. Chill in the fridge 1–2 hours (or freezer 20 minutes).

Step 5: Add Sticks

1. Melt a little candy melt.

2. Dip the tip of each stick in melted candy.

3. Insert halfway into each cake ball.

(This keeps them from falling off.)

Step 6: Dip in Chocolate

1. Melt the rest of the candy melts.

2. Dip each cake pop fully into the coating.

3. Gently tap off excess coating.

Step 7: Decorate

• Add white sprinkles immediately.

• Stick pops upright in styrofoam or a cup to dry.

✅ Makes: about 20–24 cake pops

• Use very little frosting so the inside stays fluffy.

• Use candy melts instead of chocolate for the smooth coating.

• If coating is thick, add ½ tsp vegetable oil to thin it.

... Read moreMaking cake pops is a fun and creative baking project that anyone can enjoy, whether you're a beginner or have some experience in the kitchen. One of the best parts about this recipe is how customizable it is. While the original recipe suggests vanilla or white cake with vanilla frosting and pink candy melts, you can experiment with different cake flavors such as chocolate, red velvet, or lemon to suit your taste or occasion. When mixing the cake crumbs with frosting, it's important to add just enough frosting so the mixture sticks together without becoming too soft. I found that starting with two tablespoons of frosting and gradually increasing to three if needed works well. This balance helps keep the inside light and fluffy, which makes every bite of the cake pop enjoyable. Using candy melts instead of regular chocolate for coating is a smart choice because candy melts have a smoother, shinier finish and harden nicely at room temperature. If you notice your coating is too thick to dip properly, adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil or shortening can help thin it out for a perfect smooth layer. Chilling the cake balls before dipping is key — this step really helps the cake pops firm up, making the coating process easier and preventing them from falling apart. I typically chill mine in the fridge for about 1.5 hours and sometimes use the freezer for a quick 20 minutes if I'm short on time. For holding the cake pops upright while drying, styrofoam blocks or even a small cup with uncooked rice works wonders to keep your pops from touching each other and getting damaged. Lastly, decorating is where you can add your personal touch! White sprinkles are a simple and elegant choice, but feel free to try colorful sprinkles, edible glitter, or even drizzle with a contrasting candy melt color. These little cake pops make great gifts, party favors, or delightful snacks for any celebration. From my experience, making cake pops is a rewarding process that combines baking and candy artistry. Don't be afraid to experiment with flavors and decorations to make them uniquely yours!
