LO is now 9 months old and should be eating solid meals everyday. But starting solids has proven to be the hardest part of motherhood thus far for me! I was really into the idea of baby lead weaning, until my dad freaked out that I gave him a carrot to gnaw on and said he could choke. And he’s not the oatmeal type. He gives babies anything he eats, just super cut up. I don’t feel like anything is cut up enough and it’s causing me so much stress! If anyone has tips, or even a class I could take that would be so awesome. Anything and everything is appreciated! #solidfoodforbaby #solidstartsbaby #babyledweaning #startingsolids #momlife
Beginning solids is not only a significant milestone for your growing baby but can also be a source of anxiety for many new parents. Baby-led weaning is an increasingly popular approach, encouraging babies to explore food at their own pace, which can be both empowering and daunting for parents. Safety is a common concern, especially regarding choking hazards. To alleviate worries, it's essential to understand the appropriate textures and sizes for baby foods. Start with soft, easily mashable foods like avocado, sweet potatoes, and bananas, which give little ones the opportunity to practice self-feeding with minimal risk. It's also beneficial to educate yourself on the signs of readiness for solids. Look for cues such as your baby sitting up well with support, showing interest in what you eat, and being able to handle food in their mouth without gagging excessively. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consider attending a local class on starting solids or baby-led weaning. These classes can provide valuable hands-on experience and reassurance. Parents often find that sharing experiences with others going through the same journey can be incredibly helpful. Online communities and forums dedicated to starting solids and baby-led weaning can also be a great resource. Engaging in discussions and asking for advice can help you feel more confident in your choices. Remember, each baby is unique, so trust your instincts and enjoy this exciting new phase!
