[ NOW OPEN ] Brisbane Now Has Australia’s Largest Performing Arts Centre 🎭✨
A major new chapter for Brisbane’s arts scene has officially arrived.
The stunning new Glasshouse Theatre at Queensland Performing Arts Centre has opened its doors, adding a 1,500-seat theatre to the city’s cultural heart and making QPAC the largest performing arts centre in Australia under one roof.
Seven years in the making, the new theatre features a striking rippled glass façade inspired by the Brisbane River, designed by Blight Rayner Architecture in partnership with Snøhetta. The design was selected from an international competition and creates a bold new landmark for the South Bank precinct.
Inside, the Glasshouse Theatre expands QPAC’s world-class venues, joining the Lyric Theatre, Concert Hall, Playhouse and Cremorne Theatre. Once fully operational, it’s expected to welcome up to 300,000 additional visitors each year.
And the opening season is already stacked.
The first performances include:
✨ Messa da Requiem by Queensland Ballet (27 March – 4 April)
🎶 The Last Ship starring Sting (9 April – 3 May)
🎭 The Drover’s Wife by Leah Purcell (13 – 22 May)
It’s a major milestone for Brisbane’s performing arts community and a spectacular new stage for international productions, theatre, ballet and live performance.
📍 The Glasshouse Theatre is located at @QPAC in South Brisbane
