💀Upon my Enemies (All you need to know)
I have been contemplating posting about this. Not because I want to gate-keep, but in the spiritual community this is what’s called Baneful Magick. A beginner SHOULD NOT start off with this type of magick. This is for someone who has many many many years as a practitioner. As the title entails, it can bring 💀upon someone but can easy backfire. This is not about lighting a candle, no this is dark and can go wrong. But in this space, we will always discuss defensive magick (to protect yourself) and works such as baneful magick.
I will use myself as an example. I knew of a person that was the textbook definition of narcissist, manipulator, and violent. This person tried to DESTROY my reputation at work as being a liar, unreliable and creating lies about me. What did I do? Have a piece of this person’s belongings and began going to work. Even though the person is not 💀, their life has turned upside down for the worse. Anything that went wrong, it went wrong badly…… This is the type of situation that calls for someone like this. If you ever get back at someone for physically hurting your children, abused you whether it’s physically or mentally, people who have been in DV situations, situations that involved GRAPE. This is not a complete list but you understand where I am coming from.
Origins:
• African Influence: Enslaved Africans brought spiritual practices involving candle magic, ancestor veneration, and herbal work. These practices merged with European ceremonial magic and Catholic traditions.
• Hoodoo and Conjure: By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Hoodoo shops (often called “spiritual supply stores”) in cities like New Orleans, Memphis, and Chicago began selling purpose-specific candles. The Dume candle emerged in this environment as a powerful “crossing” or “destruction” tool.
• Name and Meaning: “Dume” likely comes from the phrase “doom,” symbolizing the intent to bring harm, end a situation, or destroy an enemy’s influence.
Design and Use:
• Typically black, sometimes inscribed with the words “D.U.M.E.” or “Death Unto My Enemies.”
• Sold as a fixed candle or plain for the practitioner to dress with oils, herbs, and prayers.
• Used in serious situations for:
• Reversing attacks
• Breaking enemies’ power
• Protection through counterattack
• Ending abusive or oppressive situations
Cultural Significance:
• Considered one of the most powerful and dangerous candles in conjure work.
• Associated with justified retribution rather than random harm, often used when someone feels wronged or attacked.
• Its reputation made it both respected and feared, and many practitioners caution about using it lightly because of the heavy energy it carries.
Modern Usage:
• Still sold in spiritual shops and botanicas.
• Paired with psalms, prayers, or ancestor petitions depending on the practitioner’s tradition.
For Protection & Justification:
• Psalm 35 – For protection against enemies and to call on divine justice:
“Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me…”
• Psalm 91 – For safety, protection, and divine shelter during the working.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High…”
For Destruction or Reversal of Enemies:
• Psalm 7 – To reverse evil back to those who sent it.
“Let the mischief of their own lips return upon their heads.”
• Psalm 109 – One of the most powerful cursing Psalms, often called an “imprecatory psalm,” used when seeking to silence or destroy the influence of an enemy.
• Psalm 55 – To bring turmoil or confusion to someone who has caused harm.
For Strength and Support:
• Psalm 23 – To maintain courage, strength, and spiritual balance during the working.

Traditional Use:
• The candle is prayed over daily while reading the chosen Psalm(s).
• Some practitioners read the Psalm aloud three or seven times, depending on the intensity of the work.
• Many follow up by thanking their spirits or ancestors once results are seen.

Bottles labeled Sweet Revenge, Cursing, or Banishing aren't just names – they are crafted with herbs and essences believed to align with the DUME candle's core intent: to reverse attacks, break an enemy's power, or end abusive situations. Applying these oils to the candle, often with specific prayers or psalms, is believed to infuse it with the practitioner's focused will and the desired outcome. It's a deeply personal and intentional act, not a casual spell. Ultimately, understanding "what is a DUME candle" means recognizing its place as a last resort for serious spiritual warfare. It’s about reclaiming power and seeking justice, but always with a deep understanding of intent and potential repercussions. It's a reminder that even in the darkest corners of spiritual practice, there's a drive for balance and protection, however intense the method.
