Goodmorning Glory 💜
There's nothing quite like stepping outside in the morning and being greeted by a burst of vibrant color from your garden. For me, that joy comes from my beautiful morning glories! I've been cultivating these enchanting climbers for a few seasons now, and every year, they surprise me with their resilience and breathtaking display. When I first started my garden, I was looking for something relatively low-maintenance but high-impact, and morning glories absolutely fit the bill. I remember planting the seeds directly into the soil after the last frost, and it was incredible to watch them sprout so quickly. They love a sunny spot, and I made sure to give them a trellis to climb, which they happily wrapped themselves around almost instantly. It's truly amazing how fast they grow, creating a lush wall of green leaves dotted with those iconic trumpet-shaped flowers. One of the biggest concerns I often hear people have about morning glories is their reputation for being invasive. While it's true they can be enthusiastic self-seeders, I've found that with a little mindful management, they're perfectly charming. I usually plant them in a designated area where they have plenty of room to spread, or in large pots if I want to contain them more. Deadheading spent blooms before they go to seed also helps a lot in preventing them from taking over. I think of it as a small price to pay for such consistent beauty! I've experimented with a few different varieties, and each one brings its own unique charm. The classic 'Heavenly Blue' is always a showstopper, with its intense, clear blue petals. But I've also grown some lovely purples and even a few bicolors that add so much character to my porch. They truly transform any space into a whimsical, cottage-core dream, even if you just have a small balcony. They're also fantastic for attracting pollinators like bees and hummingbirds, which adds another layer of life and movement to my garden. My personal tip for anyone thinking of growing morning glories is to be patient in the beginning, but then be ready for a spectacular show. Give them good soil, plenty of sun, and something to climb, and they will reward you with a daily symphony of blooms. Just remember they are 'morning' glories for a reason – they tend to close up in the afternoon heat, so enjoy their splendor with your morning coffee!
