Adult Friendships Are a Different Kind of Hard 😭☕

Nobody really prepares you for how different friendships can feel in adulthood. Between work, family, relationships, school, responsibilities and simply trying to keep yourself together, maintaining friendships can get HARD. 😭

And making new genuine friends? Whew…that’s a whole different conversation. 😂 Sometimes I really wonder if making real connections gets harder as we get older.

So tonight, coffee with Big Sis is an open conversation. ☕💕 Do you think making genuine friendships is harder as an adult?

... Read moreNavigating friendships as an adult is truly a unique challenge. From personal experience, I've noticed that adult friendships require a different kind of patience and understanding compared to younger years. With everyone juggling careers, families, and personal growth, it’s common to feel like there’s never enough time to connect deeply. One thing that helped me was redefining what friendship looks like in adulthood. Instead of daily conversations, I focused on quality over quantity—checking in when possible, and picking up right where we left off without awkwardness. This aligns with the idea that adult friendships often thrive on meaningful moments, not constant contact. Making new genuine friends is indeed a whole different ballgame. I found being proactive helps—joining groups or activities that align with my interests made it easier to meet like-minded people. Also, embracing vulnerability when sharing life's ups and downs creates stronger bonds. It’s important to accept that sometimes friendships ebb and flow with life’s seasons. Some friends might be there during certain phases and then step back, which doesn’t diminish the bond but reflects how busy adulthood can be. Ultimately, adult friendships may not look like they did in our youth, but they can be just as fulfilling with the right mindset and effort. As the post’s coffee conversation suggests, understanding and showing up when it matters strengthens these bonds. So it’s okay to feel exhausted; the key is making those genuine connections count when time allows.
