SNACKS
9 month old favorite snacks!!!
Finding the perfect snacks for a 9-month-old can feel like a never-ending quest, right? As a stay-at-home mom, I'm always looking for nutritious and convenient options that my little one actually enjoys and that I feel good about giving. Beyond just listing favorites, I've learned a few things about what makes a snack truly great for this age, and I wanted to share more of my thoughts and experiences with you. First off, texture is everything! At 9 months, babies are usually exploring self-feeding, so snacks that are easy to pick up (pincer grasp practice!), dissolve quickly, or are soft enough for emerging teeth are ideal. This is why puffs are often a huge hit. For instance, those 'Organic Apple & Cinnamon Puffs' from brands like Little Bellies are a staple in our household. They're perfect for developing fine motor skills and they melt quickly, reducing choking risks. I love that they often come with no added sugar, which is a big win in my book! Another fantastic option we've discovered are the 'Once Upon A Farm Veggie Puffs'. My baby absolutely loves the Organic Shoowberry, Sweet Potato & Coconut flavor. It's such an easy way to sneak in some extra vegetables without a fuss. Plus, they're often made with avocado oil, which adds healthy fats – something I always look for. Bars are also a lifesaver, especially when we're out and about. The 'Apple & Oat Organic Soft-Baked Bars' are fantastic because they're designed for little hands and usually have simple, clean ingredient lists with no artificial anything. I always check for 'no added sugar' on these too! When introducing any new snack, I always start small. I offer just a piece or two initially to see how my baby reacts and to gauge any potential allergies. Supervision is key, especially with younger babies. Even with dissolvable snacks like puffs, I make sure I'm right there watching. I also pay attention to portion sizes; a little goes a long way for tiny tummies. For example, a few 'Soft Baked Mini Cookies' (the ones that say 'Chocolate Chip' are a rare treat!) might be okay occasionally, but the main focus is always on nutrient-dense options like those 'fruit & veggie' blends. Don't be afraid to experiment a bit! What one baby loves, another might turn their nose up at. I try to offer a variety of flavors and textures throughout the week to keep things interesting and encourage a broader palate. And remember, snacks are there to bridge the gap between meals, not replace them. So, a few well-chosen, wholesome bites are usually all that's needed. What are your 9-month-old's current snack obsessions? I'd love to hear them!
