WIEIAD, which stands for "What I Eat in a Day," has become an essential tool for managing my nutrition and recovery. Post-op nutrition is not only about choosing low-calorie options but also about balancing protein intake, hydration, and micronutrients to support healing. One major thing I’ve learned through my interactions with my home health nurse is the importance of meal planning. Two months in, my stomach is still adjusting to smaller portions, so having nutritious meals pre-planned keeps me on track and prevents me from feeling overwhelmed or resorting to less optimal snacks. Incorporating high-protein foods like scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and soft chicken has been key. Hydration is another critical focus post-op. Drinking water frequently but in small sips helps me avoid discomfort or nausea. I've also learned to pace myself throughout the day, eating smaller meals but more frequently. From a lifestyle perspective, documenting and sharing my journey on social media, including TikTok, has not only kept me motivated but connected me with others on similar paths. The #bariatricsurgery and #whatieatinaday communities offer endless inspiration and practical meal ideas. Overall, embracing WIEIAD as part of my recovery is empowering. It reminds me that healing is a process and nutrition plays a huge role. For anyone considering or recently undergoing bariatric surgery, focusing on balanced meals, listening to your body, and leaning on professional guidance such as from a home health nurse makes all the difference.
