Be My Pen Pal!

It feels like ages ago that I first moved to the vibrant streets of New Orleans, full of hope and excitement. And while this city has certainly captured my heart, I've found one part of the adulting journey surprisingly challenging: making new friends. As an introvert, I cherish deep, meaningful connections, but they take time to build, and that's where the magic of a pen pal truly shines for me. I've been thinking a lot about what makes a pen pal connection special, and it's definitely more than just exchanging words. I love the idea of making each letter a little piece of my world. Sometimes, I'll press a tiny flower I found on a walk through the French Quarter, or include a silly doodle of my cat, Hazelnut Grace, mid-nap. It’s not about being an artist, but about adding a personal, tangible touch that goes beyond the screen. Have you ever added anything unique to your letters? Speaking of Hazelnut Grace, she's my sassy feline companion, probably around five years old now. She's the queen of the house and loves to supervise my reading sessions. And then there’s my wonderful dog, Loretta Lynn. For anyone wondering about 'kitty lynn age' (which I think might be a mix-up with Loretta!), she’s a sweet, loving rescue. I adopted her when she was about two, and she's now almost eight! She’s my shadow, always ready for a walk or a cuddle on the sofa. They both add so much joy (and occasional chaos!) to my life, and I often find myself sharing little anecdotes about their antics in my letters. They're such a huge part of my daily routine, whether it's Hazelnut Grace demanding attention while I'm trying to learn French, or Loretta Lynn insisting on a walk when I'm engrossed in planning my next travel adventure to Disney World. Beyond my beloved pets, I'm constantly exploring new hobbies and passions. I'm slowly but surely trying to learn French – 'Bonjour!' – which has been an adventure in itself. And, of course, dreaming about my next trip to Disney World, my ultimate happy place. Sharing these little snippets of life, from learning a new language to revisiting my favorite magical parks, is what makes finding a pen pal so incredibly exciting. It's about connecting over shared interests or even just discovering new ones through someone else's stories.
