One thing that is very important to me during school is to keep up in the gym and to keep up with my protein.
🏅 Protein shakes make hitting your protein goal SO MUCH EASIER!! For a long time I’ve loved the pre-packaged protein drinks. (Alani, premier, fair life, etc) and I have tried a VARIETY of protein powders.
🫨 Most of you may know, they can be gross and chalky or even chunky sometimes. A lot of these brands or even certain flavors of a brand can be an extreme hit OR an extreme miss!!
🤑 I was looking on Amazon to get a good deal. A big pack of shakes for a decent prize. Right here I have a 12 pack or Root Beer Float flavored Premier Protein shakes. Most of their flavors have been a hit for me and I was SO excited to try this flavor. I even payed a lil extra considering it’s limited edition. I even chilled it, because I know that room temp shakes can be hard to finish!!
This …I think this was a miss :( and I am going to have to deal with the flavor because I am NOT wasting these lol. LOVE Premier Protein…but I dunno about this flavor 😬
... Read moreFinding the perfect protein shake can feel like a quest, right? Especially when you're juggling school, work, and trying to stay healthy. We all know the drill: you spot a new flavor, maybe a 'limited edition' like the Root Beer Float one, and your hopes are sky-high for that easy 30g protein boost. But as I've learned, sometimes those hopes can come crashing down!
It’s not just about the flavor, though. When I'm picking out a protein shake, I always, always check the nutrition facts label. It's so easy to just grab one and assume, but looking beyond just the highlighted 'Protein 30g' can save you from a lot of surprises. I try to watch out for excessive sugars or artificial ingredients if I can help it. Sometimes a shake might have great protein, but also a ton of added sugar that I'd rather avoid. Taking a moment to read that bottle label really helps me make an informed choice for my health goals.
And let's be real, sometimes you end up with a flavor that's just... meh. Or, like my Premier Protein Root Beer Float experience, a definite miss! But hey, a good protein shake isn't cheap, and I'm totally with you on not wanting to waste it. So, what do you do? I've got a few tricks up my sleeve. First, extra chilling helps *a lot*. If it's room temp, even a decent flavor can taste off. But for those truly challenging ones, try blending it with ice! It thickens it up and somehow dulls any weird aftertastes. Sometimes I'll even blend a plain protein powder (or a less-loved ready-to-drink one) with a little bit of unsweetened cocoa powder or a splash of cold brew coffee – instant mocha protein! It's all about masking or transforming those flavors into something more palatable.
The hype around 'premier protein root beer' or any new 'root beer float protein shake' flavor is real, and it’s tempting to jump on the bandwagon. But remember, taste is so subjective! What's a hit for one person could be a total miss for another. My advice? If it's a limited edition, maybe grab just one or two bottles to try first before committing to a whole 12-pack like I did! That way, if it doesn't quite hit the mark, you're not stuck with a fridge full of regret.
Ultimately, staying on top of your protein intake, especially during busy periods like college, is key. Pre-packaged shakes like Premier Protein are incredibly convenient, even with the occasional flavor fail. Don't let one bad experience derail your protein goals. There are so many options out there, both ready-to-drink and powders, that you're bound to find your go-to hits. Keep experimenting, keep checking those labels, and keep those protein gains coming!
