We’ve been thinking about adding a new puppy to our pack, especially now that Chester, our youngest, has fully settled in and is ready for a buddy closer to his age. Roxy, our sweet 9-year-old, loves her calm vibes, but Chester needed a playful partner to match his energy. 🐾
While scrolling through Nextdoor, we came across a post about a little skinny puppy possibly around a year old found abandoned on a basketball court at a nearby apartment complex. A kind couple had taken him in but was looking for a forever home. ❤️
The next day, we took Chester and Roxy to meet him, and it was instant puppy love. 💕 They ran, played, and bonded like they’d known each other forever. Despite being a bit skittish (understandably so) and very thin, Crumb has the sweetest heart. He adores people and other animals and has already become the biggest love bug in our home. 🐶
This Christmas feels extra special knowing Crumb is with us, safe, and loved—ready to enjoy his first of many cozy holidays. 🏡✨
... Read moreIt feels like just yesterday we found Crumb, a sweet stray dog with those pleading brown eyes, abandoned and needing a home. That initial 'Story Time On How We Took Home This Stray Dog' post really just scratched the surface of his incredible transformation and our ongoing journey.
While Crumb wasn't technically a 'foster dog' through an official program, the kind couple who took him in after finding him on that basketball court really exemplified the spirit of fostering. They provided him with safety, food, and love until we could give him his forever home. It truly highlights the importance of community in helping strays find their way to loving families.
Bringing Crumb home was pure joy, but also a journey of patience and understanding. He was so skinny and a bit skittish at first, understandably so, given his past. We spent a lot of time just letting him decompress, learn to trust, and slowly starting to truly understand what it means to be a cherished pet. House training took a bit, and we had to introduce him to Chester and Roxy carefully, but seeing their bond grow stronger every day was incredibly rewarding. We watched him 'Play Slowly starting to' explore and gain confidence with his new pack.
Now, looking at him, you wouldn't believe he was once that scared, abandoned puppy. His coat is shiny, his 'brown eyes' sparkle with confidence, and he's filled out beautifully. He's still the biggest love bug, showering us with cuddles, and his playful energy matches Chester's perfectly. It's such a rewarding 'adoption update' to see him thrive, completely at ease and loved.
Adopting a rescue dog, especially one with an unknown past like Crumb, comes with its unique set of joys and challenges. My biggest advice? Patience, consistency, and endless love. Regular vet check-ups are crucial, and positive reinforcement training works wonders. Providing a safe, predictable routine helps them build trust. Seeing Crumb transform from a scared stray into a confident, happy family member is the most incredible gift. It truly reinforces why we believe so strongly in #AdoptDontShop.
Every day with Crumb is an adventure and a reminder of the resilience of animals. If you're considering adding a furry friend, please consider adopting. You're not just giving a dog a home; you're gaining a loyal, loving companion and an 'adoption update' story of your own to share.
