Self acceptance,love, and accountability

Someone who, as a young child, has experienced so much trauma a child should never go through to things I have seen and done in the military thus far, I have more to come. With all the trauma I have been through it has created a man who is hard, pushes the ones I love away. I isolate myself not from consciousness, but from a heighten state of fight or flight and living in survival mode 24/7. I’m on a journey to not fix because our traumas don’t make us broken, but to learn about it, have more conscious control. Everything in my life is a product of my own actions. I now understand that I have made so many illusions and unrealistic expectations for those around me. I use to think I was broken, unlovable, damaged goods, not worthy of anything, and someone who could never be good enough for love or to be loved unless I performed or did something for it. That’s not reality. None of that is true. I know I am not perfect, and never will be. I have the product of my own failures, heartbreak, and suffering. I am on a self journey to love myself, be more mindful and in control of myself and reality while not making illusions of what isn’t and what has never been. I know now all I can do is control my self when life doesn’t go the way I planned or thought it should be. I am freeing myself of all things out of my control and taking self accountability for my actions, reactions, and thoughts. Join me if you too have experienced this on this journey with me and maybe, even if it’s just one person, I can help you do the same. I’m not a professional in any manner just a man who has been through a lot and doing things that help me. It may not be for everyone but could lead anyone on the same path if they want.#ptsdrecovery#accountability#selfimprovement#selflove

... Read moreTrauma, especially in childhood or through intense experiences such as military service, deeply impacts an individual's mental and emotional well-being. The concept of living in a constant fight or flight state, as described, reflects how the brain and body adapt to perceived threats by remaining on high alert, which is common in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Understanding this physiological response is crucial in moving towards healing and self-empowerment. Self-acceptance is a foundational step in recovery. It involves recognizing one's intrinsic worth beyond past pain or perceived flaws. Contrary to the feeling of being 'broken' or 'unlovable,' self-acceptance acknowledges the totality of one’s experiences without judgment. This mindset shift can significantly reduce feelings of isolation and increase self-compassion. Taking accountability, as highlighted in the article, empowers individuals to reclaim control over their thoughts, reactions, and behaviors. This does not mean blaming oneself for trauma endured but involves making conscious choices about how to move forward in life. Accountability includes setting realistic expectations for oneself and others, which helps reduce frustration and disappointment. Mindfulness and conscious control are effective tools for managing symptoms of trauma-related stress. Practices such as meditation, breathing exercises, and grounding techniques can help individuals stay present, decrease anxiety, and prevent automatic, survival-driven responses. These techniques support the development of emotional regulation and resilience. The mention of illusions and unrealistic expectations touches on cognitive distortions that trauma survivors often face. Challenging these distortions through therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can enhance self-awareness and promote healthier perspectives. Lastly, connecting with communities or individuals on similar journeys, whether in-person or online (such as hashtags #ptsdrecovery, #accountability, #selfimprovement, #selflove), provides valuable peer support, encouragement, and shared wisdom that can bolster the healing journey. Although the author is not a professional, sharing personal experiences can inspire others to seek their own path to recovery. In summary, healing from deep trauma requires a compassionate approach to self-acceptance, the courage to embrace accountability, and the commitment to mindful living. By learning about the effects of trauma, cultivating self-love, and managing survival instincts, individuals can pave the way toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

An infographic titled 'BUILD THE STRUCTURE THE HABIT RUNS INSIDE IT' compares private versus public commitment for accountability. It outlines two steps: choosing a specific structure and making a public commitment, emphasizing that smart people build structures to sustain habits when motivation is low.
THE ACCOUNTABILITY STRUCTURE THAT HOLDS
THE habit that holds when someone is watching is the exact same habit that eventually holds when no one is. The external structure is not a crutch. It is the scaffold that keeps the behavior running long enough to become internal. The research is clear. People who commit publicly and report prog

This image illustrates two interconnected paths: the 'Accountability Loop' (Forgive, Own, Recognize, Choice, Take Action, Learn, Self-Examine) and the 'Victim Loop' (Ignore, Deny, Blame, Rationalize, Resist, Hide, Situation), both influenced by 'Intention'.
This image lists 'Signs of Victim Mentality,' including stating people are better off without them, dramatizing events, learned helplessness, fixation on negative events, lack of empathy, low self-esteem, needing excessive attention, blaming others, being easily angered, and severe self-pity.
This image displays the text 'True accountability means accepting responsibility for how our thoughts and actions impact the world' over a blue water background with ripples and a single droplet.
