The truth behind why I was laid off 👩🏻💻
Some people have asked me why I was laid off from my email marketing job that paid $80k/year.
Starting off, I was told by HR that my layoff was "not for cause" meaning it was not due to something I did or didn't do. Second, my company has been through rounds and rounds of "restructuring" (aka layoffs and also a ton of people quit...) over the past 2 years.
I will say... the details were a little sketchy to me. I was initially offered the role, I began vaguely getting trained for the role, I was told I would be given the updated job description for 4+ weeks... then never received it. I didn't have a real manager for months (my temp manager quit after 1 month) so I was reporting to different people for awhile (6 managers in 6 months). I finally was transferred under a new, final manager, who enthusiastically set up a 30-60-90 day plan to acclimate me to the new role. Ultimately, I was laid off ~2 weeks after we discussed the plan. WEIRD, RIGHT?!
