2 ways Iām preventing BURNOUT at my new $80k job š©š»āš»
I've always struggled with detaching from work, burnout, stress, and anxiety. Now with my new job, I have a chance to establish a new routine, a new me. I've so far been able to achieve this with 2 major actionable strategies:
1. Time blindness
I set the clock/time on my home screen to blend into the background of my screensaver, so I can't see the time unless I unlock my phone and look for it. This sounds so random but HEAR ME OUT -- I've always struggled with mindfulness. A big part of anxiety is stressing about the future and NOT living in the moment, so being time blind has helped boost my mindfulness.
2. No-guilt breaks. I talked about this in a previous post, but I did NOT set up my work communication apps on my phone, so I get 0 notifications when Iām away from my desk. Yes, itās a tiny bit stressful because I worry Iām getting messages when Iām in the bathroom or clock off a little early, but overall itās been a net positive where 90% of the time Iām off work, I TRULY disconnect. Which is not something I used to be able to achieve even just 5 months ago.
Being more transparent with my workload. I tell my manager everything Iām working on (and maybe even play it up sometimes⦠everyone does). Just being very open about having a busy week instead of sucking it up and saying āIām fine! :)ā has helped set realistic expectations to my team.

Burnout is an increasing concern for professionals across various industries, particularly as work demands escalate. Many people struggle to establish boundaries between work and personal life, leading to stress and anxiety. To combat this, one effective approach is to implement mindfulness practices. Mindfulness can improve your ability to remain present and focused, helping you detach from work-related worries. Also, setting up specific times to check your work messages can lead to a more satisfying work-life balance. Adding structured breaks into your routine, where you completely disconnect from work tasks, allows for mental recovery. This rejuvenation can reinvigorate your attention and creativity once you return to work. Other practitioners suggest establishing clear communication with your team about workload to set realistic expectations and lessen the pressure of 'being fine' at all times. Implementing these strategies can not only prevent burnout but also improve overall job satisfaction and productivity, creating a healthier workplace environment.
