how i make $80k in email marketing
My first email marketing job was in 2019, with the job title Marketing Operations Student. As an intern, I was making about $22-25/hour, aka $45,000-$52,000.
My second email marketing job was in 2022, with the job title Email Marketing Specialist. I started at $75,000, then got 2 raises over the course of 2 years, to $78,000 then $80,000.
My current job title is Email Marketing Manager (channel manager, not people-manager), where I make the same as I did at my last job at $40/hr or $80,000. The upper limit in my salary band is actually $93,000 (I KNOW I KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS, BUT I FORGOT TO NEGOTIATE WHEN I SIGNED ON, THEN FOUND OUT THE RANGE ACTUALLY WENT UP $5/HR MORE THAN I PITCHED MYSELF AT).
From my understanding of marketing in general, as a junior individual contributor, $95,000 ish is pretty much the highest anyone can get in my area. A senior level email marketing specialist may go up to $110,000, but those opportunities are rare, only at really large companies!
If I want to increase my salary from here, I would have to become a people-manager in email operations, demand gen, marketing in general… and the next level for managers can go anywhere from $90,000 to $120,000. Beyond that would likely be director level, from $120,000 to $170,000.
From here, my next target would either be to go to a senior level role… or one day manager?????? If I ever want to manage people?!
