How to find a *chill* corporate job 👩🏻‍💻🛌

I post a lot of content on finding/avoiding jobs that are likely to be lazy girl jobs or high stress jobs, but the truth is, those are mostly generalizations with a 60/40 chance of success. The BIGGEST factor is actually… COMPANY CULTURE.

This seems like a shot in the dark for many new companies, but after 100s of interviews and almost 20 jobs, I’ve realized it’s actually pretty easy to gauge the vibe of a company, team, and the position itself just from the interview.

Here are 6 questions I ALWAYS ask to find out if the company culture is compatible with my working style:

- What’s the management style like?

- Is the work mostly collaborative or independent?

- What does the company do to promote work/life balance?

- What projects is the team currently working on?

- How would you describe the team culture?

- Who would I primarily be working with?

A successful job search often hinges on understanding company culture, which reflects the company's values, behaviors, and work dynamics. When exploring potential job opportunities, consider the various dimensions of company culture. Each organization will have its own unique practices when it comes to management styles, flexibility in work hours, and team collaboration. Research reviews from current and former employees on platforms like Glassdoor or LinkedIn to gain insights into how they perceive the company's work environment. Additionally, understanding the specific team dynamics you'll be working with is crucial. When you ask about ongoing projects during the interview, gauge the enthusiasm and collaboration among team members. A team that values open communication and fosters a supportive atmosphere is likely to contribute to a more relaxed job experience. Moreover, as remote work becomes increasingly popular, many companies are adapting their cultures to accommodate flexible working conditions. This can significantly enhance your work-life balance, as you'll be able to create a work environment that suits your personal preferences. Make sure to inquire about remote work policies and the company's approach to promoting employee well-being. In summary, approaching your job search with a focus on company culture will help you uncover positions that genuinely resonate with your work style. By asking the right questions and conducting thorough research, you can find a fulfilling job that supports your lifestyle and career goals.
