I’m a Marketer & Still Don’t Know These Things
Despite being in marketing for over 6 years and email marketing for over 4 years, there’s still sooo many things I don’t know at my job. Even though I’m literally the subject matter expert.
When people come to ask me these, I google almost all of them still:
- A/B test results → put it into ChatGPT to write the analysis
- Segmentation strategy? → secretly checking how everyone else does it
- Yes, I can graph this and put it into pivot tables → forget how to organize it almost every time, still have to look at our old samples
- “Deliverability issues? Yes... totally under control” → PANICKING, Googling what to do.
I remember a MAJOR disaster at my last company where we used somebody at the company’s email as the reply-to and he ended up receiving hundreds of OOO auto response emails. He was upset, the VP was upset, he couldn’t use his email, everyone was worried he got hacked. My manager and I had to do so much damage control, so much explaining and apologizing. We’ve learned our lesson since then, but I still get so much imposter syndrome now at times.
Do you still Google things at your job?
