Pros/Cons of WFH in Energy & Renewables

When I first took on the role of Email Marketing Manager in the energy and renewables space, I was really drawn to the freedom of working remotely and experimenting with different types of email campaigns at a really large company, but what really surprised me was how much strategy and detail go into every single send, especially when there are so many different audience segments.

What I really LOVE is that there is:

- Full remote flexibility: I can work from anywhere and structure my day around focus time and meetings. I’m always in cafes and coworking with friends!

- Autonomy: I support the strategic decisions on campaigns without micromanagement. It’s also just energy & renewables, it’s not life or death and my managers/coworkers understand this.

- Impact I can see right away: Every email is mostly educational, so the feedback we’re receiving from webinars and emails are immediate and we can see in real time how we’re educating recipients

HOWEVER… there are still cons:

- No benefits: Health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off are all out of my pocket

- Job security: Being a contractor means work can be temporary or unpredictable

- Isolation: I miss office banter and adhoc collaboration in a role where creativity is sometimes required

Even with the cons, the trade-off for freedom, creativity, and making an impact in the industry has made this role worth it!!!
