An update on my classroom decor (October 2025)
I had this itchy feeling one day, late September. a feeling that one day admin would walk into my classroom. usually, when that happens, that's a signal to revamp the classroom a bit.
my 7th grade classes had completed a foldables project abt the Four Sentence Types, so I decided to put as many of them up as possible. for my 6th graders, they had completed their Acrostic Poems, which they did very well on. and I made sure to also post our community norms and some flowers and plants leftover from my og order of classroom decor.
i didnt always care abt this stuff, but I’ve come to realize how important classroom environment is. it's such a small thing, but how a classroom looks can determine the mood students will have when they enter the room. the more secure and calm students feel in your room, the more likely things will go positive throughout the year.
and I need that confidence tbh. it's been hard to really connect to my students this year, the way I did last September. I don’t always greet them with a smile. I’m not always nice. and I think I come off as cold and hard sometimes, which can make kids feel a type of way. but I try to listen. I give help when asked. I set clear expectations every day. and I don’t get angry, I always remain firm and remind students of my expectations of them when they enter my class.
and i think that will be enough for now.
