Fave Creepy Reads from 2025

I read a lot of creepy stuff this year! both prose and graphic novels.

considering how slow of a reader I am, remembering I read more than I thought feels good.

hoping to read more horror/creepy books (and more) in 2026

... Read moreAfter diving into some truly fantastic horror novels like 'BLOOM,' 'EPISODE THIRTEEN,' and the unsettling 'SLENDER MAN' this past year, I've found myself craving even deeper, more immersive chills. While traditional books are incredible, there's a whole other realm of terror that's captured my attention: internet horror, creepypasta, and nosleep stories. If you're like me and love the psychological suspense found in books like 'A GAME IN YELLOW' or the eerie atmosphere of 'BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES,' you absolutely have to explore internet horror. What makes these stories so captivating is their unique format and how they often blur the lines between fiction and reality. Unlike traditional novels, creepypastas are typically short, unsettling tales shared online, often with a 'found footage' or 'urban legend' feel. They thrive on ambiguity and the idea that what you're reading could be real, making them incredibly effective at getting under your skin. The 'nosleep' subreddit, for instance, is a goldmine for these. Authors present their stories as genuinely true accounts, and the community engages with them as such, which adds an incredible layer of immersion. You’ll find narratives about strange occurrences, disturbing encounters, and things that just don't make sense, much like the unexplained dread you might feel while reading 'THRUM.' It's a different kind of horror, often relying on psychological tension, existential dread, and the fear of the unknown rather than jump scares or gore. I've started exploring these stories more, and they offer a fresh perspective on what 'creepy reads' can be. They often tap into modern anxieties, digital fears, and the anonymity of the internet, creating a very contemporary sense of dread. Imagine the dark forest setting from some of my favorite book covers, but instead of a physical location, the terror lurks in the digital shadows. For example, some 'internet horror' focuses on unsettling glitches, haunted websites, or AI gone wrong, while others explore ancient evils manifesting in modern ways. It’s a genre that constantly evolves, making it endlessly fascinating for horror aficionados. One of the things I appreciate most about creepypasta and nosleep is the community aspect. Readers often discuss theories, share their own experiences, and even contribute to shared universes, creating a rich, interactive horror experience that you don't always get with a standalone novel. This collective engagement can make the scares feel even more real and pervasive. For anyone who enjoyed the unsettling vibes of 'EVERYTHING IS FINE' or other psychological thrillers that leave you questioning reality, delving into internet horror can provide that same unique blend of discomfort and intrigue. It’s not just about monsters; it’s about unreliable narrators, insidious conspiracies, and the slow burn of psychological decay that lingers long after you've closed your browser. It's a fantastic way to keep those chills going long after you've finished your last physical horror book, and it’s become a new favorite way for me to get my dose of creepy. Trust me, once you start, you might find yourself losing a little 'nosleep' too! Dive in, if you dare, and discover a whole new dimension of scary stories.
