Combo Brows to Ombré Powder
Linnie Phan Beauty Studio & Academy
Let me share a recent journey with one of my lovely clients! Here’s how we went from Combo Brows to Ombré Powder Brows and why it was the perfect choice for her.
Client’s Brow Situation:
• She didn’t have much natural brow hair, especially in the front and tail areas.
• Initially, she wanted Combo Brows (nanostrokes + shading) for a natural, hair-like look.
• However, I explained that with sparse natural hair, the strokes might fade significantly and not blend as well during the healing process.
• I also let her know that brows typically heal 40-60% lighter, and results depend on skin type and how well the pigment takes.
The Initial Session:
• We decided to start with Combo Brows as a conservative approach.
• During the healing process, the strokes faded quite a bit, and the overall look was lighter than expected (which is normal for sparse brows).
• Unfortunately, I forgot to take healed photos (😭 FML), but trust me, the results gave us a great starting point to work from!
Touch-Up Appointment:
• For her touch-up, we discussed her preferences again. She draws her brows in very dark daily, and after seeing how the Combo Brows healed, she wanted a bolder, more defined look.
• We decided to transition to Ombré Powder Brows, a perfect solution for creating a makeup-inspired look that blends beautifully and heals more evenly.
• This technique suits her needs better, especially since it gives her a polished, filled-in appearance and works well with her skin type.
Why Ombré Powder Was the Better Choice:
1. More Defined Look: Ombré Powder gives that “makeup finish” she loves.
2. Better Healing: For clients with sparse brows, shading heals more evenly than nanostrokes.
3. Longer-Lasting: Ombré tends to retain its pigment longer, especially for clients with oily skin or minimal natural hair.
Takeaway:
Every client’s brows are unique, and I always prioritize clear communication to ensure the best results. Starting with Combo Brows allowed us to see how her skin healed and gave her the confidence to switch to Ombré Powder.

When it comes to eyebrow techniques, understanding the differences is crucial for achieving your desired look. Combo Brows, which involve a combination of nanostrokes and shading, offer a natural, hair-like appearance. This method is particularly beneficial for clients with some natural hair, allowing for a seamless blend. However, as highlighted in this article, Combo Brows may not be the best choice for those with sparse brows. The healing process can lead to significant fading, often leaving clients longing for a more defined look. On the other hand, Ombré Powder Brows provide a bolder, makeup-inspired aesthetic that has become increasingly popular among beauty enthusiasts. This technique utilizes a shading method that heals more evenly, making it an excellent option for clients with sparse brow hair. It is particularly advantageous for individuals with oily skin, as it tends to retain pigment longer than nanostrokes. With this technique, the result is a polished and beautifully filled-in look that lasts, addressing common concerns related to fading and uneven healing. Ultimately, the choice between Combo Brows and Ombré Powder Brows should be guided by individual preferences and brow conditions. Consulting with a professional can provide tailored advice, ensuring you achieve the look you desire. Be sure to communicate your daily makeup habits and style preferences during your consultation to find the best fit for your brows. With the right approach, you can enjoy long-lasting beauty with minimal maintenance.
