Hey fellow autumn lovers! You know, there’s something truly magical about experiencing fall in Japan. While my recent photos might transport you to the stunning landscapes of Nagano, I’ve been absolutely dreaming about the vibrant autumn colors that sweep through Sapporo, Hokkaido, during this season. If you’re like me and constantly searching for the perfect fall getaway, let me share why Sapporo in autumn should be at the very top of your list! Imagine strolling through a park, bundled up in your favorite cozy outfit – maybe even a stylish yellow plaid poncho like the one I saw someone wearing on a recent trip – surrounded by a breathtaking display of red, orange, and golden leaves. That’s exactly the kind of picturesque scene you can expect in Sapporo from late October to early November, when the foliage is usually at its peak. The northern location of Hokkaido means the autumn colors often arrive a little earlier and linger longer than in some other parts of Japan, offering a unique and extended viewing period. One of my absolute favorite spots to recommend for experiencing Sapporo's fall beauty is Odori Park. It’s right in the heart of the city, and watching the urban landscape transform with fiery maples and golden ginkgos is just incredible. Another must-see is Nakajima Park; its serene pond reflecting the vibrant autumn leaves is a photographer’s dream. Don’t forget to check out Hokkaido University's Ginkgo Avenue – it turns into a stunning tunnel of bright yellow that feels straight out of a painting! For a more immersive nature experience, a day trip to Jozankei Onsen, just outside Sapporo, is a fantastic idea. The surrounding mountains are covered in stunning fall foliage, and you can relax in a hot spring while taking in the views. Beyond the incredible scenery, Sapporo in autumn offers so much more. The crisp, cool air is perfect for exploring the city on foot, discovering charming cafes, and indulging in some delicious seasonal treats. Hokkaido is famous for its fresh produce and dairy, so expect incredible ramen, fresh seafood, and creamy desserts. I always recommend trying some of the local autumn-inspired dishes; it’s a wonderful way to connect with the season. Whether you're chasing those iconic vibrant red autumn leaves or just looking for a cozy escape amidst nature's grandeur, Sapporo delivers an unforgettable fall experience. It’s a place where the beauty of nature truly shines, making every step an opportunity for a breathtaking photo op and a memory to cherish. Trust me, if you love fall, you’ll fall in love with Sapporo!
