GETTING A JOB, POST-GRAD 💡

Ah post-grad, a HUGE milestone in your life that’s far from easy! It’s filled with transition and change, making it difficult for many of us (including me!).

As someone who’s been post-grad for almost two years now (finishing grad school in May!), I’ve found some tips that helped me get my first job and kickstart my career.

1. GET CONNECTED 😎

I know this one seems overused, but it’s so true! Making connections in-person or virtually can make a major difference in getting a job offer or not. If you’re in a certain community, find ways to get involved and utilize those ‘loose connections’ to your advantage!

I’ve found that by I completing internships and staying involved, you gain the connections needed in order to succeed. Don’t forget to use LinkedIn! People are very receptive to talk to young people, especially those of us who are recently post-grad. You’d be surprised by the amount of people who respond to a message to chat about their current position and answer some questions!

2. CREATE A COMPELLING RESUME 📝

Creating a resume that fits the job landscape you’re applying to is everything. For example, when applying for a marketing role, you’re going to want a semi-creative resume, showcasing your skillsets and creative abilities.

There ARE people that can help with this! Again, get connected. I actually had a friend of mine design mine using Adobe Photoshop. This and Canva are great resources. Most employers that I’ve talked to have appreciated my organized and detailed resume.

3. BE PERSONABLE 🤩

I cannot express this one enough! While this tip leads more into the phone call and interview portion of the job search, it’s equally as important.

When job searching, you have to realize that you are selling yourself. YOU ARE THE BRAND! Be kind, smile, relatable, and talk! Employers are much more likely to take a chance on someone who’s personable, than dry.

4. STAY PERSISTENT 💦

Always remember - stay PERSISTENT! Job searching isn’t easy at all, but we’re all in this together. Trust me, it’s a lot of work, but the reward is worth it.

Reach out to me with any questions - I’m happy to help! 🙂
