Trouble maker

From my own experience, calves are not just adorable but incredibly curious, which sometimes leads them into places they shouldn’t be. It’s a constant game of keep away, but you learn a lot about their personalities and natural instincts through these moments. One thing I’ve noticed is that calves who tend to stick together can form a bit of a duo, a partnership that makes their escapades even more entertaining (and challenging for the rancher!). These pairs, often described as “thick as thieves,” will coordinate their little adventures, whether that means exploring new corners of the ranch or testing barriers for weaknesses. Keeping an eye on them helps prevent any real trouble, but their curious nature is honestly a joy to witness. I recall one time when a couple of calves managed to slip into a restricted area—probably where some feed or equipment was stored—and their antics had us laughing more than scolding. Because who can stay upset when they're just being young and curious? This kind of behavior is typical on many ranches, where the balance between giving calves freedom to roam and ensuring their safety can be tricky but rewarding. In addition to the fun stories, these experiences highlight the importance of secure fencing and regular checks to keep the calves safe and the operations smooth. Trouble making is part of growing up in the animal world, and sharing these moments adds a wonderful human touch to ranch life stories.
