It’s Not My Job‼️

I often see comments asking, 'why not put this energy into a job?' or 'put this energy into something productive.' And honestly, I totally get where that question comes from. In a world that constantly pushes us to be productive and always 'on,' it’s easy to misunderstand what 'protecting your energy' truly means. It’s not about laziness or avoiding responsibilities; it’s actually about smart energy management that ultimately benefits every aspect of your life, including your paid job! When I talk about 'it’s not my job' to tiptoe around someone else’s feelings, or to constantly people-please, I’m talking about emotional and mental energy. This isn't the same energy you exert for a client report or a physical task at work. This is the finite resource that allows you to think clearly, stay balanced, and maintain your *mental health*. Constantly taking on other people's emotional burdens, or feeling obligated to fix every problem, drains this crucial internal resource. It leaves you feeling burnt out, resentful, and frankly, with very little left to give to your actual job or passions. Think of it this way: My real job that no one pays me for, but is absolutely essential, is maintaining my own well-being. As that notebook page I saw so clearly put it, it's about defining 'IT IS MY JOB' – focusing on *personal boundaries*, *self-care priorities*, and making sure I'm prioritizing personal well-being over *pleasing others*. Learning to master saying no isn’t selfish; it’s an act of *self-respect*. It’s recognizing that you have a fundamental responsibility to yourself first. And guess what? When you're not constantly expending energy on things that aren't truly your responsibility, you actually have more energy for your job, your hobbies, your loved ones, and achieving your goals. That clarity of mind, that reduced stress, that feeling of being genuinely 'free' – that's what allows you to show up as your best self, whether it's in a meeting, a creative project, or just enjoying your weekend. It’s about being strategic with your most precious resource. By protecting my energy now, I'm investing in my long-term capacity to be truly productive and fulfilled, rather than just constantly running on empty. So, yes, I am putting my energy into a job – the most important one: taking care of me, so I can genuinely contribute meaningfully to everything else without burning out.
