Gods Voice

It’s a question many of us ask, especially when we’re seeking guidance in our lives: 'Is this truly God speaking to me, or is it something else trying to distract or mislead?' I've spent a lot of time in prayer and #biblestudy, journaling my thoughts, and I've come to realize that discerning God’s voice from Satan’s isn't always easy, but it is absolutely possible. I even have a notebook page where I've created a clear visual comparison, almost like a 'God's Voice' vs. 'Satan's Voice' checklist, separated by a distinct line. When I first started out, every strong thought felt overwhelming. But over time, I've learned that God’s voice consistently leads you towards truth, peace, and love. It’s never condemning in a way that shatters your spirit, but rather convicts you gently, always offering a path to redemption and growth. It encourages, empowers, and builds you up. Think about it: does the message bring you a sense of calm, even if it requires a leap of faith? Does it align with what you know of God’s character from scripture? Does it feel like an invitation to something good and purposeful? For me, a strong indicator is that sense of divine timing and love. God isn't in a rush, and His plans unfold with perfect intention, always rooted in His boundless love for us. Even when He asks me to do something challenging, there's an underlying peace that confirms it's from Him. On the flip side, I've come to recognize Satan’s voice as one that often frightens you, causes anxiety, doubt, and confusion. It whispers lies that make you question your worth, God’s love, or your ability to do good. It thrives on fear, insecurity, and division. Have you ever had a thought that makes you feel utterly hopeless, or pushes you to act impulsively out of anger or despair? That’s usually a red flag. Satan’s voice will try to isolate you, make you feel unworthy, and discourage you from pursuing your spiritual walk. It might even sound logical at first, mimicking truth, but its ultimate fruit is always destructive. It rarely offers peace; instead, it stirs up turmoil and leaves you feeling drained. Here are a few quick "tests" I use in my journaling to help me discern: Does it bring peace or anxiety? God's voice, even with a challenging message, usually brings an underlying peace. Satan's brings distress. Does it align with Scripture? God will never contradict His written Word. If a thought goes against the Bible, it's not from God. Does it build up or tear down? God encourages and empowers. Satan condemns and discourages. Is it loving and patient, or urgent and demanding? God works in divine timing and with love. Satan often demands immediate, fear-driven action. Learning to discern these voices is a journey, not a destination. It takes practice, prayer, and consistent engagement with God's word. But trust me, the more you seek to hear God, the clearer His voice becomes, guiding you towards a life filled with purpose and true peace.
