There was a time when I used to feel obligated to answer every call or message immediately, even when I was trying to relax. One particular moment I remember clearly is when my phone showed 30 missed calls with just a simple "Where are you?" text — it was overwhelming and stressful. Now, I make it a point not to answer calls unnecessarily while on vacation. It’s not that I don’t care, but I believe stepping back helps me recharge mentally and emotionally. This habit has allowed me to enjoy my time alone or with loved ones more deeply, without the distraction or pressure of being constantly reachable. For anyone feeling overwhelmed by messages or calls during their downtime, try this approach: inform friends or family in advance about your intention to disconnect and why it’s important for your well-being. Most people understand and respect the need for personal space and rest. Moreover, this practice can improve your focus on the present moment, reduce anxiety, and improve your overall mental health. It's important to set boundaries and honor them, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. When I finally do check my phone after a day of digital detox, I feel more positive and energized to engage in meaningful conversations. Taking control of when and how to communicate is a valuable lesson in self-care that I encourage everyone to try.
