What should I change about my hair?

#lemon8diarychallenge this is my un-styled hair, I do have curtain bangs that tend to look better after styling. Otherwise I have old brown box dye on the mids and ends, but it blends with my natural color.

So I’ve been wanting to change my hair for a while now. But I don’t know what to do. I like dying it but it’s hard to do anything at home with just box dye and have it come out looking good. Unless you’re just doing all over ofc. I kind of want like a balayage but that’s expensive. So basically the question is what do y’all think I should do with it that’s not too expensive?

... Read moreIt's totally understandable to feel like you hate your hair sometimes, especially when you've had the same look for a while or are dealing with old box dye like me! I've been there, staring in the mirror, wondering what on earth to do with my shoulder-length wavy brown hair without spending a fortune. It's a common dilemma, and trust me, there are so many ways to refresh your look that don't involve an expensive salon balayage. First off, if you're thinking 'reasons why I should dye my hair,' consider temporary changes. Instead of another permanent box dye that might blend oddly, have you looked into color-depositing conditioners or semi-permanent glosses? They're fantastic for refreshing faded color, adding shine, and can even subtly shift your tone without the commitment or damage of permanent dyes. Plus, they wash out, so if you regret a slight color change, it's not the end of the world. For my wavy hair, I find these treatments really boost softness and make it look much healthier. For style ideas, beyond a full cut, what about playing with your curtain bangs more? Sometimes just learning new ways to style existing elements can make a world of difference. You could also explore different partings, or even try a 'faux bob' with pins to see if shorter styles, like a playful pixie (though that's a big chop!), would suit you before committing. Accessorizing can also be a game-changer! A cute headband or some stylish clips can elevate even the simplest un-styled hair. And let's not forget hair health! Often, when we 'hate' our hair, it's because it's feeling dry or looking dull. Incorporating some good healthy hair practices can make a huge difference. Think about weekly deep conditioning masks – you can even make some great ones at home with ingredients like avocado and honey for shiny silky hair. Using a heat protectant religiously, even for just quick styling of your curtain bangs, and minimizing heat overall can help repair damage from previous box dyes. My personal experience has shown that focusing on health makes my wavy hair much more manageable and shiny, making me feel so much better about it even before any major changes. If you're worried about 'regret after cutting long hair,' starting small is key. Maybe just a trim to get rid of damaged ends and reshape your existing cut slightly. Or, if you wear glasses like me, experimenting with how your hair frames your face with different eyewear can also give a fresh perspective. The goal is to find a change that makes you feel good and confident, without necessarily breaking the bank or making a commitment you'll later wish you hadn't. Good luck on your hair journey!
