So I’ve just spent the past two weeks with my bf in Georgia, and now I’m back home (Florida) and he has to stay in Georgia for another month! How do you go from getting used to always being around your partner to being hours away from them. I’ve gotten so used to waking up with him eating with him sleeping with him and doing almost everything together. Now that I’m home, everything just feels so lonely. How do I cope? I wasn’t this needy before the trip but now it’s like I’m an entire different person and all I want is to go back and hug him forever. Am I just being dramatic? Is anyone else like this?

It's completely normal to feel lonely, clingy, or even a bit lost when your partner is far away, especially after such an intense period together. You're definitely not being dramatic; your feelings are valid.
I remember a time when my partner had to travel for work for a few weeks, and I felt exactly the same way. One moment we were sharing every meal and late-night chat, and the next, it was just me and the quiet house. It's a huge adjustment, and it can really highlight how much you rely on their presence for daily comfort and happiness.
So, what can you do when you find yourself in this situation, feeling that ache of distance? Here are a few things that helped me, and maybe they can offer you some comfort and direction:
Schedule Connection, But Don't Overdo It: It's tempting to want to call and text constantly, but sometimes that can make the distance feel even more pronounced if expectations aren't met. Try scheduling a daily or every-other-day video call for a specific time, like a 'virtual dinner date' or a 'morning coffee chat'. This gives you both something to look forward to without feeling glued to your phone. Quick texts throughout the day are great for sharing small moments, but structured calls can maintain deeper connection.
Re-engage with Your Own Life: Before your boyfriend came to stay, you likely had your own routines and interests. Now is a great time to dive back into those! Pick up that book you started, try a new hobby, hit the gym, or plan outings with friends you might not have seen as much. This isn't about forgetting your partner, but about nurturing your own well-being and having exciting things to share when you do connect.
Create a 'Comfort Zone' at Home: Make your home feel extra cozy and personal. Maybe it's lighting scented candles, listening to your favorite music, or reorganizing a space. Creating a peaceful environment can help alleviate some of that lonely feeling when you're by yourself.
Plan for the Future: Having something concrete to look forward to can make the time apart more bearable. Talk with your boyfriend about what you'll do when he gets back – a special date night, a weekend trip, or even just what you'll cook for dinner. You could even start a shared list of movies to watch or recipes to try together.
Journal Your Feelings: Sometimes just getting all those emotions out on paper can be incredibly therapeutic. Write down how you're feeling, what you miss, and even what you're looking forward to. It helps process everything and can offer a sense of release.
Support System: Don't hesitate to lean on your friends or family. They can offer a listening ear, a distraction, or simply a comforting presence. Sharing your feelings can make you realize you're not alone in experiencing them.
Remember, this feeling of intense longing is a testament to the strong bond you share. It shows how much you value his presence. This month will pass, and you'll be back together before you know it. In the meantime, be kind to yourself, allow yourself to feel, and focus on rediscovering and nurturing your own well-being. You've got this!
