... Read moreHey fellow Planeswalkers! I wanted to dive a bit deeper into my Tinybones, the Pickpocket Commander deck because it's truly a blast to play and surprisingly effective, even on a budget. If you're looking for a mono-black deck that messes with your opponents' hands and graveyards, Tinybones is your guy (or skeleton!). My strategy with Tinybones is all about consistent discard and then leveraging those discarded cards. In the early game, the goal is to get Tinybones out quickly and start poking away at opponents' hands. Cards like Charcoal Diamond and Arcane Signet are crucial for ramping up our mana, letting us cast Tinybones and then follow up with discard spells or effects. You want to make sure Tinybones is protected, so equip him with Swiftfoot Boots or Whispersilk Cloak as soon as you can. It’s devastating when he gets removed before you can start stealing treasures! The real fun begins as hands get empty. Tinybones' ability to draw a card and create a Treasure token whenever an opponent discards a nonland card is pure gold. This keeps our own hand full and ramps our mana even further. But it doesn't stop there! His second ability, letting you cast a card from that player's graveyard if they have no cards in hand, is where you can really turn the tide. I've stolen so many crucial artifacts, creatures, and even powerful planeswalkers with this ability. It's incredibly satisfying! To ensure opponents always have empty hands, we run a suite of discard effects. Crypt Rats is an all-star here, not only emptying hands (if you pump enough mana) but also acting as a repeatable board wipe in a pinch – just be careful not to wipe your own Tinybones without protection! Infesting Radroach can also contribute to discard and provides a persistent threat. And speaking of threats, Banehound is excellent for early pressure and can often trade up, while Activated Sleeper offers a fantastic reanimation target or a way to turn an opponent's best creature against them. Cards like Endless Cockroaches provide excellent sacrifice fodder or just a recurring blocker, which is super useful for maintaining board presence while you grind out value. The ability to may return it to your hand from the graveyard, like with Cockroaches, is key for consistent resources. Building Tinybones on a budget doesn't mean sacrificing power. Many effective discard spells and utility creatures are quite affordable. Focus on consistent discard, good mana rocks, and ways to protect your commander. Once you get the engine going, you'll be drawing extra cards, accumulating Treasures, and casting your opponents' best spells right back at them. It feels so sneaky and powerful! Give him a try; you'll be surprised how many games you can win by simply picking away at their resources and then stealing their thunder.
