Pansies and Black eyed Susan’s

I’ve been busy making some flowers for my grandparents, let me know if you would want a tutorial. Or what other flowers I should do.

... Read moreMaking felt flowers has become one of my favorite ways to create lasting, heartfelt gifts. There’s something so special about crafting something beautiful that won't ever wilt, unlike fresh blooms. When I made these vibrant felt pansies and Black-eyed Susans for my grandparents, I poured so much love into each petal, and seeing their faces light up was the best reward. If you've ever thought about diving into felt flower making, I highly recommend it! For anyone curious about starting, you don't need much! A good selection of felt sheets (I often go for soft pastels like pink for petals and deeper purples for centers to get that classic pansy look), sharp scissors, floral wire for green stems, and a reliable fabric glue are your essentials. Some people also like using a hot glue gun for speed, but I find fabric glue gives me more control for delicate shapes. To create a simple felt pansy, you can start by cutting out a few petal shapes. For the classic pansy look I achieved (with those lovely pink petals and purple centers mentioned in my photos!), I cut five heart-ish shaped petals: two slightly larger for the top, two medium for the sides, and one smaller for the bottom. For the center, a small circle of dark felt works perfectly. You can even add tiny stitches or fabric marker details to mimic the intricate markings pansies often have. Once your petals are cut, arrange them in a circular pattern, gluing them at the base. Attach your green stems using floral wire wrapped with green felt or floral tape. It’s all about layering and slight adjustments until you get that perfect bloom. And don't forget the Black-eyed Susan! These are super fun with their bright yellow petals and distinct black centers. Just cut several long, tapered yellow petals and a larger black circle for the center. You can even cut fringe around the black center for added texture. These look stunning when paired with the softer pansies, creating a beautiful contrast in a bouquet. Imagine a full bouquet of these handmade beauties, offering a splash of color that lasts forever! Beyond bouquets, felt flowers can be used in so many creative ways: as hair clips, brooch pins, decorative accents on gift boxes, or even strung together to make garlands. They add a personal, handmade touch to any item. I'm always experimenting with new flower types and techniques, and these pansies and Black-eyed Susans were a joy to create. Don't be afraid to experiment with different shades and textures of felt to bring your own floral visions to life. It's a truly rewarding craft!
