... Read moreHey fellow Planeswalkers! 👋 I just stumbled upon this super fun 'Put a Finger Down' challenge for Magic: The Gathering, and it totally had me laughing at how relatable some of these points are! If you've ever wondered if you're a 'typical' Commander player, this is your chance to find out. I know I definitely put a few fingers down, especially for owning more protection than I probably need! Let's dive into some of the points from the challenge and why they resonate so much with our community: "You own 2 decks with the same color combo." Guilty as charged! It's so easy to fall in love with certain color pairs, isn't it? Whether it's the efficient aggression of Boros or the powerful control of Dimir, sometimes a combo just clicks, and you end up building multiple unique strategies around it. There's always one more commander to try, right? "At least 1 Proxy card." Okay, who hasn't used a proxy at some point? Whether it's to test out an expensive card before buying, standing in for a rare card you own but don't want to risk, or just to make a casual game more fun without breaking the bank, proxies are a surprisingly common part of the MTG experience for many playgroups. I even have a few for cards I'm saving up for! "Use Dragon Shields or Ultra Pros." This one's almost a given for serious players! Protecting your precious cards is key, and these brands are staples for a reason. I personally swear by Dragon Shields; their matte sleeves just shuffle so smoothly. It’s a small investment that saves your collection from wear and tear, especially for those highly played Commander decks. "You just lost your last game of Commander." Ouch, this one hits hard! 😂 Commander is a game of highs and lows. One minute you're crushing it, the next you're getting ganged up on or falling victim to a perfectly timed board wipe. It happens to the best of us, and honestly, it's all part of the fun. Losing just makes the wins feel even sweeter! "You own an UNMODIFIED precon." This is a classic! Many of us start our Commander journey with a preconstructed deck, and sometimes, those decks are just good enough as they are. Or maybe you bought it for a specific legendary creature and haven't gotten around to tinkering with it yet. It's a testament to how well-designed some of these precons are straight out of the box. I keep one on hand for quick pick-up games! Beyond this 'Put a Finger Down' game, the MTG community loves a good challenge. If you're looking for other fun ways to engage with the game, here are a couple of ideas you could try with your friends: Themed Deck Challenge: Pick a specific theme – say, "Food" tokens, "Pirates," or even just "creatures with flying" – and build a Commander deck entirely around it. It pushes your creativity and often leads to hilarious and unexpected interactions. Budget Commander: Try building a competitive (or at least fun!) Commander deck for under a specific budget, like $50 or $100. It forces you to explore less obvious card choices and find synergy in unexpected places. Random Commander Generator: Use an online tool to randomly select a commander and then try to build a functional deck around it. This is great for breaking out of your comfort zone and discovering new strategies. What about you? How many fingers did you put down in the challenge?
