No Niche For Me

I was told I need a niche.

A box.

A perfectly curated version of myself.

I was also told I should run secret accounts, play the algorithm, and water myself down to “convert better.”

Hard pass.

I’m not here to perform.

I’m here to be real.

People don’t connect with niches—they connect with humans.

With stories. With growth. With honesty.

So no, I won’t choose one thing.

I’m allowed to evolve.

I’m allowed to be layered.

And I’m allowed to show up exactly as I am.

If that’s “wrong” for social media…

then I’m doing it perfectly. 💁‍♀️🔥

... Read moreIn today’s social media landscape, the concept of niching down can feel limiting. Many creators are encouraged to box themselves into specific categories to grow their audiences or play the algorithm effectively. However, choosing to stand out by simply being yourself—unfiltered and unapologetic—can be a game-changer. I personally found that when I stopped focusing on rigid niches and instead shared a blend of experiences and interests, my engagement became more meaningful. Followers connected not just with a topic, but with my journey, honesty, and growth. This approach fosters community and support rather than just transactional viewers. Authenticity resonates with people because it reflects real life with its complexities, changes, and challenges. Rather than watering down your message to appeal to algorithms or chasing transient trends, staying true to yourself often builds trust and loyalty over time. Moreover, running 'secret accounts' or performing for the platform’s metrics can be exhausting and unsustainable. By showing up as a layered individual with evolving perspectives, content creation becomes more enjoyable and fulfilling. It also opens doors to diverse collaboration opportunities since you aren’t confined to one label. Remember, social media algorithms are increasingly favoring genuine engagement and community rather than surface-level polish. Sharing your unfiltered story—including struggles and successes—invites others to relate and engage authentically. So if you feel pressured to niche down or perform a certain way, consider taking a step back and embracing your true self openly. This not only helps your mental wellbeing but can transform your social media presence into a space where real human connections flourish.
