I remember when I first encouraged my teenager to start making breakfast on their own, it was a mix of excitement and hesitation. Teaching teenagers to prepare their own breakfast encourages responsibility and independence. It doesn't have to be complicated—starting with simple recipes such as pancakes, scrambled eggs, or smoothies can make the process enjoyable and less intimidating. Involving them in meal planning and grocery shopping can also enhance their enthusiasm and understanding of nutrition. From personal experience, seeing my teen make delicious banana pancakes almost every morning has been rewarding. It shows how they’ve taken ownership of their morning routine, giving me the chance to relax a bit while still knowing they’re starting their day with a nutritious meal. Moreover, when teenagers learn to cook, they are better prepared for adulthood and can make healthier choices instead of relying on processed or fast foods. It also fosters creativity in the kitchen and can become a fun family activity—sometimes I join in and try out new recipes together. In conclusion, while it’s natural for parents to want to care for their children, gradually transitioning breakfast duties to teenagers can benefit their growth and self-esteem. The age to stop making breakfast isn’t fixed; it depends on each child’s readiness, but encouraging self-sufficiency early on is definitely a positive step.
