Starting a business is not easy!

There are pros and cons to both types of businesses.

I own a brick and mortar salon/barbershop and an online business, so I’ve experienced both firsthand.

One takes more overhead, more time, more moving parts.

One allows more flexibility, scalability, and lower startup costs.

Neither is easy.

But they are VERY different.

And honestly, learning both has completely changed the way I think about income, time, freedom, and growth.

The goal isn’t to work forever just to maintain.

The goal is to eventually build systems that work with you 🤍

From my experience running a salon/barbershop alongside an online venture, I’ve come to appreciate the unique challenges each model presents. A brick-and-mortar business requires substantial overhead: a physical storefront, securing business licenses, meticulous bookkeeping, and ample time investment. These aspects often mean juggling more moving parts daily, which can be overwhelming but rewarding as you build a loyal local customer base. In contrast, the online business side offers enticing benefits like lower startup costs and greater flexibility. Marketing online generally involves simpler processes, allowing quicker returns on investment with less financial risk. Keeping finances straightforward and leveraging digital tools helps streamline operations. However, neither approach is inherently easy, and success demands dedication. The biggest revelation for me has been understanding the importance of creating systems that eventually work with you rather than requiring your constant input. This shift in mindset from working endlessly to maintaining sustainable growth has been pivotal. For anyone considering entrepreneurship, evaluating these factors is vital. Whether you choose a physical presence or an online platform—or both—you must weigh the time, costs, and scalability each path involves. Building structures within your business can empower you to achieve not just income but the freedom and growth every entrepreneur seeks.
