🪵 STOP BUYING 2x4 FRAMING LUMBER FOR FURNITURE Construction lumber is meant to be trapped inside your walls. It has a super high moisture content, which means as it dries out in your climate controlled living room, it’s going to twist, shrink, and warp. That’s why your project is wobbling!

Instead, look for Common or Select Pine boards, or hardwoods like Oak. These have sharp, square edges and are dried properly so they won't warp on you.

📏 HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT BOARD:

1️⃣ The Telescope Test: Never just grab the top board. Pick it up and look down the edge like a telescope. If it curves like a banana, put it back!

2️⃣ The Smiley Face Test: Look at the very end of the board. You want it perfectly flat. If it's cupped like a "smiley face," it's going to rock back and forth.

3️⃣ The Factory End Rule: Factory ends are almost never square. Always buy your boards a little long so you can cut a half inch off the ends when you get home. This will save you a ton of headaches!

📐 NOMINAL VS. ACTUAL SIZING: Don't forget that a 2x4 board isn't actually 2 inches by 4 inches, it’s 1.5” by 3.5”! The same goes for furniture boards. (Watch the video to screenshot the full Lumber Sizing Cheat Sheet!).
