The promise of the resurrected Jesus

Jesus didn’t rise from the grave and then die again. He IS risen: He exists at this moment with a physical, human body. And when we die as believers, we don’t just get to have our spirit go to heaven (though that would be more than enough!). After Jesus returns, heaven and earth will be made new, and so will our physical bodies! We will receive new bodies that are eternal. It will be like God wanted it to be, in the garden, before sin entered the world.

because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. (2 Corinthians 4:14)

... Read moreReflecting on the promise of the resurrected Jesus brings a deep sense of hope and reassurance that extends beyond traditional beliefs of the afterlife. Many believers find comfort in knowing that Jesus not only rose from the dead but continues to live with a physical, glorified body. This fact profoundly shifts the perspective on what awaits us after death. From personal experience in faith communities and bible studies, the concept of receiving new eternal bodies brings immense encouragement. The idea that our future selves will be transformed to a perfected state, free from suffering and decay, resonates deeply with those who long for restoration of the original paradise described in Genesis before sin altered creation. Furthermore, the promise that heaven and earth will be made new offers a vision of cosmic renewal, where all of creation, not just individual souls, is restored. This holistic renewal aligns with biblical passages such as Revelation 21, emphasizing God’s ultimate plan to reconcile and restore everything. In practical terms, this belief offers a foundation for living with purpose and hope amid present challenges. It encourages believers to maintain faith and perseverance, knowing that their future is secure in Christ’s resurrection power. Scripture like 2 Corinthians 4:14 reinforces the certainty that the resurrection of Jesus guarantees our own future resurrection and eternal presence with God. Engaging with this promise spiritually also involves seeing life as a continuous journey toward transformation and maturity in faith. It motivates believers to embody values reflective of eternal life—love, justice, mercy, and holiness—as anticipation of what is to come. Ultimately, embracing the promise of the resurrected Jesus nurtures a hopeful outlook that transcends fear of death and uncertainty. It invites believers into a relationship with a living Savior whose resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian faith and the sure hope of everlasting life.
