God is not needlessly “narrow-minded”
God is not being needlessly exclusionary for saying the only way to get to Him is through Jesus Christ, nor is He being mean for giving us commandments to live by. Rather, from Old Testament to New, He is giving us consistent messages about who He is, what His promises are, and how to be with Him, because He wants us to be with Him.
The king will mourn,
the prince will be clothed with despair,
and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.
I will deal with them according to their conduct,
and by their own standards I will judge them.
“ ‘Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ ” (Ezekiel 7:27)
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:1–2)

Reflecting on the idea that God is not needlessly narrow-minded has truly transformed my understanding of divine guidance. When I first encountered the message that entering a relationship with God is only possible through Jesus Christ, I struggled with the exclusivity of that path. However, delving deeper into scripture revealed that this is not about exclusion but about connection and love. The Old Testament, particularly passages like Ezekiel 7:27, shows us a God who judges with justice, holding people accountable according to their own actions. This reminded me that God’s standards are not arbitrary; they are consistent reflections of His holy character. It is encouraging to see that God’s judgment aims to lead us toward understanding Him, as Ezekiel emphasizes, “Then they will know that I am the Lord.” Moreover, the teaching in Matthew 7:1–2 cautions us against harsh judgment of others, reminding me to approach life with humility and grace. It reinforces the idea that God’s commands are not oppressive but invites us to treat others as we would like to be treated. In my personal devotional times, I have found that embracing these truths shapes a richer, more meaningful faith. Recognizing that God’s commandments guide us toward a fulfilling life and a loving relationship with Him helps me appreciate His wisdom rather than viewing Him as restrictive. This understanding encourages me to live intentionally, follow God’s teachings, and share this perspective with others who might feel uncertain about the purpose behind biblical commandments. It is a journey of discovering how God’s actions are driven by desire for our well-being and eternal companionship, rather than narrow-mindedness or exclusion.
