God is Not Uninvolved
Our God is not an old man, sitting up in the clouds, judging us from afar. We have a personal God, who loves us intimately, who concerns Himself with our everyday lives, and goes out of His way to rescue us. He walked this earth to teach us, show us how to live, how to love, and to take the consequences of our evils and our sins, so that we wouldn’t have to—if we accept it. And He continues to walk with us and live with us every day, even as He rules over everything with complete authority, holiness and righteousness.
And we don’t understand it all, because we aren’t capable of it, no more than an toddler could understand astrophysics, even if you gave it all of the answers. So we have faith. Faith that the One who has chosen to reveal Himself to the world sees us and loves us, even when we don’t understand His ways or get to see exactly what happens after people leave this world, until we leave it ourselves.
15 I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord. 16 I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. (Ezekiel 34:15–16)
Reflecting on the idea that "God is not uninvolved," I have often found comfort in realizing that God actively participates in the details of our lives rather than remaining distant or indifferent. This perspective shifts how we relate to challenges and uncertainties, reminding us that we are never truly alone. From personal experience, embracing this truth has deepened my faith and trust, especially during difficult times when outcomes seem unclear. I recall moments of feeling lost or broken where I sensed God’s presence as a shepherd nurturing the weak and binding up the injured, just as Ezekiel 34:15–16 describes. This passage highlights God’s pursuit of the lost and His justice in protecting those who are vulnerable, emphasizing His compassionate yet righteous nature. Living with the awareness of a God who cares intimately challenges us to embody similar qualities—extending love, patience, and justice in human relationships. It encourages me to look beyond immediate judgments and to foster empathy and support for those struggling, reflecting God’s heart in practical ways. Additionally, recognizing that we cannot fully comprehend all of God’s ways calls for humility and faith. Just as a toddler cannot grasp the complexities of astrophysics despite explanations, humans are invited to trust in God’s wisdom and timing. This trust creates space for peace amid uncertainty and strengthens the spiritual connection that sustains us. Ultimately, seeing God as involved and loving inspires a hopeful, active faith where divine authority and holiness coexist with personal intimacy and care. It reassures me that every moment matters and that God’s justice and mercy are at work in both the seen and unseen aspects of life.
