First stop!
Our first stop was Catalina Island, Dominican Republic. We had to tender to the island. The beach was beautiful. The water was clear and blue. Lots of palm trees so finding shaded areas was easy. They had these adorable colored beach huts. We brought a hammock and floats for our beach day. And I was so happy we did. I love to float and just relax. And the hammocks were nice to swing and dry off.

Stepping onto Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic felt like walking into a postcard – exactly what you dream of for a Caribbean cruise stop! The moment we tendered ashore, I was just blown away by the pristine beauty. The water wasn't just clear; it was that impossible turquoise you only see in travel brochures, inviting you to dive right in. And those charming, colorful beach huts scattered along the shore? They added such a unique, whimsical touch to the whole scene. One thing I absolutely loved was how easy it was to find a shady hammock spot under the abundant *palm trees*. It’s such a relief not to have to fight for a sliver of shade, especially on a sunny Day 2 of your cruise. We came prepared with our own hammock and floats, and honestly, that was a game-changer! There’s nothing quite like swaying gently in a hammock with the ocean breeze, or just floating effortlessly in that warm, clear water. It made our beach day incredibly relaxing and truly unforgettable. For anyone planning a visit, especially if you're on a cruise, here are a few extra tips based on my experience. Tendering to the island is usually smooth, but try to get an early tender ticket if you want to maximize your time on the beach. While the island is small, the cruise lines often set up some facilities. We found several spots for drinks and a buffet-style lunch, though prices can be a bit higher, so bringing a couple of snacks or a refillable water bottle isn’t a bad idea. Don't forget reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses – the Caribbean sun is no joke! Also, water shoes can be handy if you plan to explore near the coral, though the main swimming areas are mostly sandy and soft. Beyond just lounging, Catalina Island offers some great snorkeling opportunities right off the beach. The clear waters mean you can spot some beautiful fish without venturing too far. Some local vendors might offer quick boat trips or additional activities, so keep an eye out if you're feeling adventurous. For me, though, the simple joy of that stunning beach, the calming sway of the hammock, and the sheer beauty of the surroundings were more than enough. It truly is a perfect escape and a highlight for any Caribbean itinerary. If you're looking for a hassle-free, utterly gorgeous beach day during your travels, Catalina Island is definitely a must-visit!
