Hiking Catawba Falls: Everything you need to know

Exploring the beauty of Catawba Falls in Old Fort, North Carolina was an unforgettable experience! 🌿✨ If you’re looking for a hike that’s perfect for all skill levels and rewards you with stunning waterfalls, this is the trail for you.

Here’s a quick guide:

• Trail Length: 3.5 miles round trip, or 2.2 miles to the waterfall and back.

• Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky terrain.

• Best Time to Visit: Early morning to avoid crowds. I arrived by 8 AM on a Saturday and found plenty of parking. By the time I left at 10:30 AM, only a few spots were left.

• What to Bring: Water, snacks, and a camera to capture the falls. Make sure to bring plenty of water, especially for the climb up the stairs near the waterfall—it can be exhausting. Thankfully, there are benches at each section where you can take a break.

The hike takes you through lush forests, along a scenic river, and ends with the breathtaking Catawba Falls cascading down the rocks. The trail is well-marked, but watch your step near the water as it can get slippery.

Pro tip: Stay a while and soak in the peaceful ambiance, or pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic by the falls. Have you hiked Catawba Falls before, or do you have another favorite waterfall trail?
