Would you unblock him ? 🙂↔️
We've all been there, right? That moment you're staring at your phone, a notification pops up, or maybe just a memory, and you start to wonder, 'should I unblock him?' Or maybe it's someone else, a friend who turned sour, a family member causing drama. The question 'should I unblock someone' can weigh heavily on your mind, especially when you think about the reasons you blocked them in the first place. Blocking someone is usually an act of self-preservation. It's about creating space, protecting your peace, and setting a boundary. But then, time passes, and curiosity or a pang of nostalgia might creep in. Or perhaps, like me, you've even received a message from a mutual friend, or an email, saying something like 'unblock me please.' It feels like a loaded request, doesn't it? Before you hit that unblock button, it's crucial to ask yourself some serious questions. First, why did you block them? Was it for your mental health, due to toxicity, or just a temporary cooling-off period? Revisit those reasons. Have things genuinely changed? Has the person shown any indication of growth or remorse, or are you just hoping they have? My personal rule of thumb is: if the reason for blocking still exists, or if you're not absolutely sure it doesn't, then maybe it's best to keep that digital barrier up. Another big question that comes up is, 'is blocking and unblocking toxic?' In my experience, yes, it absolutely can be. If you find yourself in a cycle of blocking, unblocking, re-engaging, getting hurt, and then blocking again, that's a huge red flag. This kind of on-again, off-again digital dynamic can be incredibly draining and prevent you from truly moving on. It keeps you emotionally tethered to a situation that might not be serving your well-being. It also sends mixed signals, both to yourself and to the other person, creating confusion and potentially exacerbating any existing issues. It's not fair to you, and it's not a healthy way to handle relationships, past or present. So, when is it okay to consider unblocking? In my opinion, it's rare, but it happens. Maybe a significant amount of time has passed, and you've both genuinely healed and moved on. Perhaps there's a legitimate, non-emotional reason for contact, like co-parenting or a shared professional project, where communication is truly necessary and boundaries can be strictly maintained. Even then, I’d proceed with extreme caution. It's vital that you're in a strong, secure place emotionally, not feeling lonely or looking for validation. You need to be prepared for any outcome, good or bad, without letting it derail your progress. Ultimately, your peace of mind is paramount. If unblocking someone feels like it will disrupt that peace, or if you're doing it out of obligation or a sense of guilt (especially if they've said 'unblock me please' but haven't changed their behavior), then it's probably not the right move. Trust your gut. Your boundaries are there to protect you, and sometimes, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to keep them firmly in place.
