... Read moreFall truly is the most magical time to explore our national parks, especially if you're like me and love capturing stunning nature photos! There's just something about the crisp air, the vibrant palette of orange, yellow, and red fall foliage, and the way the light hits the turning leaves that makes every view feel like a masterpiece. If you're planning a trip to chase those autumn hues and snap some incredible shots, here are a few gems I've personally found to be absolute photography paradises. First up, let's talk about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Oh my goodness, the mist-shrouded peaks combined with the kaleidoscope of colors are simply unparalleled. I remember one morning, the fog was lifting just as the sun broke through, illuminating the trees in such a dramatic way. The reflections in the streams and rivers are also fantastic for capturing unique compositions, especially if you find a calm spot. It's truly a paradise for anyone looking for beautiful nature photos. Then there's Rocky Mountain National Park, a completely different but equally spectacular experience. While the Smokies boast deciduous forests, Rocky Mountain shines with its golden yellow aspen trees. Against the dark green evergreens and rugged mountain peaks, these aspens create a breathtaking contrast. I visited once in late September, and the slopes were just ablaze with gold. It's a fantastic place to practice landscape photography, with vast vistas and dramatic skies. For a coastal twist on fall colors, Acadia National Park in Maine is a must-see. Imagine vibrant red and orange trees framing the rugged coastline and historic lighthouses! What really captivated me there was seeing the stone arch bridge surrounded by brilliant fall foliage. It offers such a unique blend of natural beauty and charming man-made structures, providing endless photo ops that are distinct from inland parks. And don't overlook New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. This park truly surprised me with its dramatic views. The rugged cliff faces overlooking the valley, filled with a mix of green, yellow, orange, and red trees, are just awe-inspiring. It’s a newer national park, but the autumnal scenery around the New River Gorge Bridge is absolutely spectacular for capturing those grand, sweeping nature photos. Finally, for a more serene and accessible fall experience, Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio is wonderful. It might not have the towering mountains of some other parks, but its tranquil scenes, like small waterfalls flowing over moss-covered rocks into leaf-strewn streams, offer a different kind of beauty. It's perfect for intimate nature shots and capturing the peaceful essence of autumn. When you're out there, remember to play with the light – golden hour (shortly after sunrise or before sunset) makes those colors pop like crazy! Also, look for reflections in water, and don't be afraid to get close to capture the intricate details of individual leaves. A polarizing filter can also work wonders for deepening colors and reducing glare. Pack layers, sturdy hiking boots, and of course, your camera! There's truly nothing like being immersed in the beauty of these parks during fall. I'd love to hear which ones you've visited or plan to explore!

All of these National parks were AMAZING!! -I would say though that Zion was VERY touristy, and hard to catch a photo without people in the background. Personally, I like to hit places less people travel too! Bryce canyon was definitely my favorite of the three, Arches being a close second!!!
