Help me hold on to what we had
Holding on to what we had can be one of the most challenging experiences in life, especially when change seems inevitable. From my own journey, I realized that acknowledging the feelings tied to past experiences is the first step toward healing. It's natural to want to pack up what’s familiar—like the image of a suitcase full of memories—and carry it with us. However, I found that sometimes we hold on to things that prevent us from growing. One effective approach I recommend is to 'close that suitcase' gently, as if telling yourself you’ve tried your best to cherish what was, while being open to what’s next. This doesn’t mean forgetting or dismissing the past; rather, it’s about making peace with it. Writing letters to yourself or sharing your story with a close friend can help articulate what you’re holding onto and why. In my experience, trying to hold on too tightly can cause more pain than acceptance. Instead, embracing the memories while focusing on present experiences creates a balance that nurtures emotional resilience. Whether it's a relationship, a chapter of life, or a dream, knowing when to hold on and when to let go is a vital skill that shapes our well-being and future happiness.
