from fear to fabulous: my dermaplaning journey ✨💖🪄
I used to be so nervous about dermaplaning and worried my hair would grow back thicker. But when I finally mustered the courage to try it, I booked a session at a MedSpa in SoHo using my ClassPass. Of course, I accidentally scheduled a microdermabrasion session instead! At that point, I thought it was a sign from the universe to just give up.
A few months later, a hair-detecting spray went viral, and I just had to try it for some content—and I loved the results! I could barely breathe because of all the aerosol, and the blades that came with it weren’t super sharp. So, I embarked on a dermaplaning journey to find what worked best for me.
Here are the products that have been game-changers in my biweekly routine!

When I first considered dermaplaning, I definitely had a lot of reservations, just like many of you might be experiencing! Queries like 'dermaplaning regret' and 'negatives of dermaplaning' were constantly on my mind. I was so scared my hair would grow back thicker or that I'd end up with terrible 'skin irritation after dermaplaning'. But after my initial hesitations and even a funny mix-up with a microdermabrasion session, I committed to finding a way to make it work for me, and I'm so glad I did! My goal was to achieve that super smooth, radiant skin without any of the common drawbacks. My journey really started with understanding that proper technique and, crucially, a solid 'dermaplaning routine' are key to avoiding 'irritation from dermaplaning'. It's not just about the act of 'face shaving' itself, but everything you do before and after. I quickly realized that many people encounter issues because they skip essential steps or use the wrong products. Before I even pick up my dermaplaning tool (the Jasclair one has been a game-changer for me!), I make sure my skin is meticulously clean. Using a gentle cleanser, like the Medicube Zero Pore Foaming Cleanser, is non-negotiable. You want to remove all makeup, dirt, and oil without stripping your skin. This clean slate helps the blade glide smoothly and prevents bacteria from entering freshly exfoliated skin, which is a common cause of post-dermaplaning irritation. Now, for the actual 'hair removal routine' part. I always make sure to use a fresh, sharp blade. Dull blades are a recipe for disaster – they can tug, scratch, and lead to more irritation. I hold my skin taut with one hand and gently glide the dermaplaning tool at a 45-degree angle with the other. The key is light, short, downward strokes. This not only removes the fine vellus hair but also effectively helps 'remove dead skin from hair' and the surface of your skin, revealing a brighter complexion underneath. Don't press too hard! It's a gentle exfoliation, not a scrub. Immediately after dermaplaning, my skin feels incredibly soft, but it's also a bit vulnerable. This is where my post-care routine kicks in to prevent any 'dermaplaning irritation'. First, I soothe my skin with a generous layer of Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel. Aloe is fantastic for calming redness and providing immediate hydration. Then, I follow up with the Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Hypochlorous Acid Spray. This spray is brilliant for disinfecting the skin, reducing redness, and preventing breakouts – it's like a superhero for post-exfoliation peace of mind. Next, I nourish my skin deeply. The Okra Origins Nourishing Sap Antioxidant Serum is a staple. I love how it calms and protects my skin with its powerful antioxidants, helping it recover and stay resilient. (Yes, that's the 'Okra' from my favorites!). After the serum, the Dr. Althea Water Glow Cream locks in all that hydration and goodness. Finally, for an extra boost, I use my Medicube Booster Pro to help all these amazing products penetrate even deeper into my skin. This comprehensive approach ensures that I get all the benefits of dermaplaning – smoother skin, better product absorption, and flawless makeup application – without any of the 'negatives of dermaplaning' or 'dermaplaning regret' that I initially feared. It's truly transformed my skin!
