i feel like not enough fitness influencers talk about the darker side of this healthy addiction. you will constantly face ups and downs and be willing to give up.

these are all things i wish i could of told myself prior to going into this, and these are still things i tell myself now! it’s okay to be discouraged sometimes, but that doesn’t mean you need to be that way forever. stop telling yourself “i wish” and tell yourself “i will” and become the person you wished to be.

you won’t get far if you sit back only dreaming of being “that girl” or having her body or not being your ideal self. take matters into your own hands and take control of your life. nobody is stopping you from achieving your goals besides you!

I often see those perfect 'gym girl photos' splashed across my feed, looking effortlessly strong and confident. But what about the days behind the scenes? The days when you take a mirror selfie in the locker room, and instead of feeling proud, you’re battling self-doubt? That’s the vulnerable side of this journey that we don't talk about enough. My own fitness journey has been a rollercoaster. There have been countless times I’ve felt completely discouraged, standing there looking at myself, wondering if I'm even making progress. It’s easy to get caught up in the 'constant need to improve' and forget to be proud of how far you’ve already come. I’ve learned that sometimes, the hardest part isn't the workout itself, but silencing that inner voice that says, 'I wish I looked like her' or 'I wish I was stronger.' It's about shifting that 'I wish' to 'I will.' One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of self-kindness and patience. We're often our own harshest critics, especially when we see our bodies fluctuating. One day you feel lean and strong, the next, you feel bloated and unmotivated. It's totally normal, and it's something I've had to embrace. Instead of letting these moments derail me, I try to remind myself that my body is working hard, and a temporary change in appearance doesn't negate all my efforts. It’s a process, and sometimes you just have to trust it, even when it feels like you're not seeing immediate results. Nutrition plays a huge role in both physical and mental well-being, and it’s something I’ve experimented with a lot. I used to be so strict with counting every calorie, but I realized that focusing on 'mental health over strict numbers' was far more sustainable for me. Whether it's enjoying a balanced meal with grilled shrimp and roasted potatoes or giving myself grace on a treat day, finding what works for my body and mind has been key. It's not just about 'female bulk to cut transformation' goals; it's about finding a healthy relationship with food that fuels my body and spirit. Ultimately, being a 'gym girl' isn't just about the physical transformation you see in a 'gym girl mirror selfie.' It's about the mental resilience, the self-discovery, and the unwavering commitment to becoming the best version of yourself, even when it's tough. So next time you're feeling down, remember you're not alone. Embrace that vulnerable side, push through the discouragement, and know that every step, every sweat, every struggle is part of your unique and powerful journey.
