GRWM {Part 4/7} 🤠🤎
It's so important for us to carve out time for ourselves, especially as Black women navigating busy lives, whether it's college or work. My night routine isn't just about getting ready for bed; it’s a sacred ritual to recharge and reconnect. I’ve found that a consistent evening routine makes such a difference in how I feel the next morning – it truly sets the tone for a productive and peaceful day. After a long day, the first thing I do is shed the day's stressors. This often starts with a warm shower or bath, allowing the steam to relax my muscles and clear my mind. I might even add some Epsom salts for muscle relaxation. While my skin is still damp, I love to slather on my special blend of organic Cocoa Butter. I mix it with a few drops of Rosemary Herbs essential oil – it's not just fantastic for deep moisturization, especially for keeping our melanin-rich skin supple and glowing, but the rosemary also has such a calming, earthy scent that helps me transition into relaxation mode. I focus on areas that need extra love, like my elbows, knees, and feet, giving myself a mini-massage. Plus, rosemary is known for its incredible benefits for hair growth and scalp health, so sometimes I'll warm a tiny bit of the infused oil between my palms and gently massage it into my scalp – it feels divine! This body care ritual is truly a moment of self-love. Once my skin is nourished and I'm feeling cozy in my favorite loungewear, I move onto my mental wind-down. This is where the 'Read, Pray' part of my routine truly shines. Instead of immediately grabbing my phone and getting caught in the scroll, I'll pick up a physical book – sometimes it's an engaging fiction novel, sometimes an uplifting non-fiction, or even just a few pages from a devotional. Reading helps to shift my focus away from daily worries and stimulates my mind in a gentle way. Following that, I take a few quiet moments for prayer or meditation. This intentional time allows me to express gratitude, reflect on my day's blessings and challenges, and release any lingering anxieties or stress. It’s incredibly grounding and helps me clear my mind, making it so much easier to fall into a deep, restorative sleep. To enhance the calming atmosphere, I make sure my space is conducive to rest. Dimming the overhead lights, lighting a natural candle (lavender or sandalwood are my absolute favorites for relaxation!), and ensuring my room is tidy helps create a peaceful sanctuary. I also prioritize disconnecting from screens at least an hour before bed. Instead, I might listen to some calming instrumental music or a guided sleep podcast. It's all about creating a luxurious buffer zone between the hustle and bustle of the day and the tranquility of sleep. Sometimes, I even prepare my outfit for the next day, which makes my morning GRWM (Get Ready With Me) so much smoother! This holistic approach to my black girl night routine isn't just about beauty sleep; it's about nurturing my spirit, body, and mind. It’s my personal way to ensure I wake up feeling refreshed, empowered, and ready to take on the world. What are your favorite rituals for winding down and preparing for a new day? I'd love to hear them!
