Labubu

Hey everyone! If you're anything like me, you've probably fallen head over heels for Labubu. Those mischievous eyes and cute little horns just steal your heart! I've always wanted to try making a themed dessert, and what better way to celebrate my favorite art toy than with a delicious Labubu torta? I decided to go all out and make it an ice cream cake because, let's be honest, who doesn't love ice cream? The inspiration for my Labubu cake came from scrolling through countless fan art pieces and official designs. I wanted to capture his iconic look but in a way that was fun and edible. My first step was sketching out a simple design – focusing on those big, expressive eyes and the signature ears. Choosing the right colors for the ice cream and decorations was crucial, so I picked a vibrant, almost electric blue for the main body, just like many of the figures, and contrasting colors for the details. Making the ice cream base was an adventure itself! I started with two layers of my favorite vanilla and cookies-and-cream ice cream, pressed into a springform pan. It's really important to let each layer freeze solid before adding the next, especially if you want clean lines. I also added a thin layer of crushed Oreos in between for some texture, which was a last-minute decision that turned out to be amazing! Once the layers were set, I covered the whole thing with a smooth layer of softened vanilla ice cream, shaping it gently to create Labubu's head structure. This part requires a bit of patience and a warm spatula to get that smooth finish. Now, for the fun part: decorating my Labubu torta! This is where the inner cake decorator comes out. For Labubu’s signature ears and horns, I used some colored fondant I had on hand. I rolled it out, cut the shapes, and then carefully attached them to the semi-frozen cake. A little trick I learned is to use a tiny bit of melted white chocolate as 'glue' – it sets quickly in the cold and holds everything in place without making the ice cream melt too fast. For the eyes, I used large round black edible sugar decorations, and for the white highlights, I piped tiny dots of white royal icing. The mischievous mouth was piped on using black gel icing. I really focused on getting the expression just right because that's what makes Labubu so unique! One of the challenges I faced was definitely keeping the ice cream cake from melting too quickly while I was decorating. My biggest tip is to work in short bursts and pop the cake back into the freezer frequently to firm up. Also, having all your decorating tools and ingredients prepped and ready before you start is a lifesaver. Once all the details were on, I added some colorful sprinkles around the base for an extra festive touch. Seeing my Labubu torta come to life was so rewarding! Serving this cake was the best part. Everyone loved how it looked, and the ice cream cake itself was a huge hit. It was so much fun combining my love for Labubu with my passion for baking (or in this case, 'no-baking').
