how to get fit for summer 2024🤸🏻‍♀️✨

I know lots of people are interested in improving their fitness for this summer, so I thought I’d put together a step by step guide for making a fitness plan that you can stick to!

I didn’t want to write out a specific plan for this post because I wanted to emphasize that the best fitness plan is one that works for YOU. Even if the plan isn’t “perfectly optimal” for a certain outcome, something you can actually stick to because you enjoy it will be so much better in the long term. I think most of us can agree that sustainable, lasting results are always ideal.

Personally I like to mix up my workouts— each week I like to do 1-2 HIIT workouts, one weight lifting workout, some walking, and some mobility/flexibility. I really encourage you to do what works for you though!

If you have any questions about fitness programs leave them down below and we can chat more! I’m a certified personal trainer and love to talk about exercise! 🫶🏼

... Read moreYou know, one of the biggest questions I get as a personal trainer is, 'How do I actually stick to a workout plan?' It's easy to get motivated, but sustaining that motivation and making fitness a true part of your life can feel overwhelming. That's why I'm such a big believer in proactive planning, and honestly, a good old-fashioned notebook and pen are my best friends in this process! When you're aiming for those summer fitness goals, it's not just about what exercises you do, but how you integrate them into your busy life. For me, it all starts by sitting down at my desk each week. This dedicated time helps me really figure out your schedule. I look at my week ahead and identify realistic pockets of time for moving my body. Maybe it's a 30-minute power walk before work, a quick session with my dumbbells during lunch, or hitting the treadmill after the kids are asleep. The key is to be honest with yourself about what's achievable. Don't plan for an hour-long gym session every day if you know you only have 45 minutes twice a week. Write these slots down in your weekly workout plan notebook – having it visually there makes it feel more concrete. Next, it's time to make a plan for what those workouts will look like. I like variety, so I'll sketch out my HIIT days, my strength training sessions (maybe targeting legs with the leg press machine on one day, and upper body with weight plates on another), and my active recovery. But here’s the crucial part: predict obstacles. Life happens, right? What if a meeting runs late, or you wake up feeling tired? Instead of letting that derail your entire week, plan for it. My notebook always has a contingency plan. Perhaps it's a shorter, intense 20-minute bodyweight circuit at home, or even just a brisk walk. Remember, 'perfect is the enemy of good' – even 5 minutes of exercise is a win and keeps the momentum going. Don't beat yourself up; just pivot and get back to it. Making fitness a lifestyle is about more than just the sweat sessions. My fitness reminders aren't just for workouts! I also track things like my hydration. It sounds simple, but ensuring I stay hydrated throughout the day makes a huge difference in my energy levels and recovery. I keep a big water bottle on my desk and refill it constantly. And honestly, the importance of good sleep cannot be overstated. When I don't get enough rest, my workouts suffer, I crave unhealthy foods, and my motivation plummets. I treat sleep as an essential part of my training, not an afterthought. Developing long-term habits takes time and patience. There will be weeks where you hit every goal, and weeks where you barely scrape by. That's totally normal! The goal isn't perfection, but consistent effort and learning what works best for your body and your life. My notebook isn't just for planning; it's also where I jot down how I felt during a workout, what exercises I enjoyed, and any adjustments I want to make for the following week. This reflection helps me fine-tune my approach and truly make it a lifestyle that I love, not just a temporary fix for summer. It’s about building a strong, healthy you, one thoughtful, planned step at a time!

Great advice on finding a fitness plan that works for YOU. The emphasis on sustainability is key – it's about building long-term habits, not quick fixes.
